    1. Una noia mortale Come al solito, una storia che avrebbe potuto essere interessante rovinata da una prosa prolissa e scadente.

    2. Even though these books follow a formula, it is just absolutely amazing that I get carried away with each one It is like reading about old friends and I feel for Thomas every time he gets screwed by the class conscious snobs of Victorian England I feel outrage over the way people are treated and how willingly they accept this treatment I would most likely be an old maid out there trying to wake up the population and backing all kinds of social causes with an amazing passion That said, once I sta [...]

    3. This mystery is rich with atmosphere and character development There is political intrigue with corruption that goes fairly deep into the British government A person might be tempted to despair with so much corruption except for the counterbalance of deep friendship, loyalty, and respect shown to Thomas pit by the family where his father served as their game keeper One of the really interesting parts of this book is that we finally get tolearn about what Thomases life was like as a child and yo [...]

    4. 2.5 starsI actually liked this one It was a page turner for sure Fast paced and engaging But the writing was very mediocre, the dialogues stiff and the discussions about colonialism and women s rights read like lectures, not actual conversations that people have in real life.

    5. This fifteenth installment in the series is a strong one The theme of the consequences of Imperialism in Africa is taken up with an undercurrent of questioning the right of women to work or for that matter to have opinions of their own, both in and outside of marriage Thomas s boyhood mentor is poisoned at his club early on, which entails Superintendent remember, he was promoted Pitt returning to his working class country roots and reawakening his fraternal relationship with the mentor s gentry [...]

    6. Disappointing, except for the ending.Although I usually enjoy each of Perry s books so much that I can hardly put them down, this one was a challenge to keep reading Personae, I felt that it too frequently became bogged down in political matters Honestly, I became so bored by the constant, detailed discussion of African affairs, that I had to force myself to pick the book up again and again Not until the last few chapters did it pick up pace enough to capture my interest again, and the conclusio [...]

    7. The books are still interesting and exciting and suspenseful On to the next.Someone in the Colonial Office is passing secrets to Germany about England s African strategy While Police Superintendent Thomas Pitt investigates this matter of treason, he is quietly looking into the tragic accidental death of his childhood mentor, Sir Arthur Desmond Pitt believes he was murdered, and that the crime is connected with the treachery in the government He is making little progress, until a second murder re [...]

    9. Wonderful Here is another fantastic mystery story of the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series There is murder and mayhem, traitors and secret societies not to mention romance and severely divided loyalties

    10. Perfect endingThis is one of the best I ve read Hats off to Ms Perry for really wrapping up well some threads that have been lingering for several books.

    11. They just keep getting better I started reading the series with the most recent and had to start from beginning My heroes and heroine in these troubling times.

    12. I have read many Thomas Pitt stories Unfortunately the plot was cumbersome I had a great deal of trouble keeping the characters straight.

    13. A gripping story of Treason, Murder, Secret Society, and the whole of Africa that was up for grabs It takes all of Thomas s instinct and the help of certain family members to help solve this and save England embossment to other Countries Also Thomas solved the murder of the man who was like a Father to him and brought piece to his son and Thomas s mind as well Traitors Gate book 15 of Thomas and Charlotte Pitt Mystery by Anne Perry was a glimpse into the workings of Britain s Government and what [...]

    14. A few comments about this book The author switches point of view, which is normal enough, but I don t think the switching added up to any great revelations I feel like if the author switches around from one character to another and it serves no other purpose than to just be a convenience for the author, the book will lose me It didn t in fact lose me I finished reading but I wasn t particularly in love with any of the book The book just doesn t grab you The first bit of action is when a carriage [...]

    15. After a slow start the middle and ending were unbelievableI think this is one of the gripping Pitt adventures The ending was a complete surprise I would recommend this to anyone who likes murder mysteries

    16. Thomas is a Superintendent of Scotland Yard He is called in to investigate a matter of treason Someone in the British Colonial office is passing information to Germany regarding England s African policies and strategies Connected with this investigation is the suspected murder of the man who was Thomas s mentor Among the possible suspects are members of a clandestine organization called the Inner Circle who work behind the scenes to forward their specific goals and agendas At first the elements [...]

    17. I enjoyed this book than any of her other books It has humor, interesting and empathy building characters, complex plot, commentary on women s issues, historical understanding, and political intrigue I was immediately hooked For those of us who read the series, she keeps readers in touch with a large number of characters who, in some books, are mentioned but not a part of the action In this book the mother, Caroline, and sister, Emily were out of town Grandmama made a token appearance and the m [...]

    18. I generally like Anne Perry s mysteries, as they seem very thoroughly researched and true to the Victorian time period in which they are set This one has several layers of mystery, all wrapped in a shroud woven of political intrigue, conflicting loyalties, and even romantic love, making it interesting on several levels There are multiple suspects, multiple motives, and Thomas Pitt has to step quite carefully lest he become a murder victim, himself There is one scene in the last chapter of the bo [...]

    19. This is the first book I have read by Anne Perry I have never been into murder investigation type of book but I enjoyed this one I liked Pitt and Matthew s connection with the murder victim He was Matthew s father and Pitt was also part of the household because Matthew s father took in Pitt and his mother when his father died Matthew and Pitt grew up together I found the class distinctions in Victorian England to be very strict and the statist of women then was amazing to me Not only did women h [...]

    20. I like most historical mysteries but this one I found tough to get through, at least the first half of the book What slowed me down was the political information of Africa I understand that at the beginning this information was to give the reader a sense of background and foundation for the rest of the book but I found it a bit repetitive and tended to slow the story down It wasn t until halfway through the book that the speed picked up for me and then I couldn t put it down If it wasn t for thi [...]

    21. The Pitt novels always take you on a straddling journey, one in which you are part both of the barely middle class and of the lower strata of polite society From both perches you can look up and down, so you see much of late nineteenth century society with clear vision Perry has a unique ability to reveal character through protagonists view of faces and gaits, which always makes me feel as if there is something missing in my vision I never discern so much in a glance No doubt this is a masculine [...]

    22. Another great book in this series Perry is getting away from always focusing on Charlotte and thus having repetitive plots and is also using description of London in Victorian times, down to the street names along which characters travel Too much of this can be distracting, but at this level it adds credibility This book has a focus on the terrible anti Semitism and related superstitions that infected some members of London society Perry is also getting better at foreshadowing the possible pers [...]

    23. Anne Perry is a really good writer Her one flaw for me is that she goes into too much detail sometimes and it slows the story down a bit Her characterizations are excellent though The plot of Traitor s Gate was rather complicated as three different crimes become interwoven The story focused almost exclusively on Thomas but Charlotte jumped in at the end to solve one of the mysteries I m not sure I really like the whole secret society business it just seems a way to have high born people commit c [...]

    24. Wow I usually have that reaction after finishing an Anne Perry book I love a good murder mystery, and these are the best I have found Anne Perry has a way of making you feel like you really know and understand the characters You get pulled in to the emotion of the story, not just the story line In this one, Pitt is closer to the Inner Circle than he ever has been before and realizes what the consequences could be if he crosses them The book is full of people making honorable choices, no matter t [...]

    25. Wow, this series has really stepped up quite a few notches in my opinion I missed a few books and started this one because I couldn t get the intervening ones Thomas has been promoted to superintendent and Charlotte is no longer quite the social pariah she was for marrying so far beneath herself There is still a lot of social commentary, especially regarding a woman s place in London in 1890 Really, all of the characters are powerfully written and well described This is easily the best of this s [...]

    26. Anne Perry is the master of detail When she writes a scene you will get a feel for every blade of grass, every smell in the area, and every thought of the character about such items Some of this detail really gives me a feeling of where the story is going However, most of it is filler and does not do a thing for the story This story was quite compelling and complicated I loved it Ready for the next book Still recommending.

    27. This was an awesome book The I read about Pitt and his mysteries the I books I want This one, as did the last book, mainly focused on Pitt with Charlotte coming in at the end I wonder if the series is going towards that angle since Pitt has moved up in society. The mysteries yes 3 mysteries ended up happening in this book were really well done and the ending made me squeal in happiness obviously I can t say why, but I promise it is great.

    28. I had a hard time getting into this book in the beginning or the story After a while I got really into it and started trying to think of clues and wanted to solve the murder myself One thing I really liked is that you could never tell where the story was going to take you and wasn t predictable The characters were very likable and easy to imagine If you enjoy books about murders as well as the time frame being a little way back when, then this is a book for you to read
