    1. Book 2 picked up where book 1 ended, with our heroes recovering from book 1 s shitstorm I liked that it took a while before book 2 s shitstorm erupted because our heroes deserved their rest And they deserved to have some of their issues resolved. It would have broken my heart if Cooper s kid brothers had to go through another tragedy One satanic affair is one too many, and I hate it when kids are embroiled So, I was very glad to see things were improving for Cooper s family I was also very glad t [...]

    2. Rating 3 Genre Urban Fantasy Review Shotgun Sorceress is the second installment in the Jessie Shimmer series It has been a full week since the aftermath of Spellbent when Jessie and her familiar, a ferret named Palimpsest, went into hell to rescue not only her lover Cooper Marron, but his brothers as well Now, Jessie and crew are waiting a final verdict for their actions that caused than a few problems, including the fact that Jessie singlehandedly destroyed the mind of the former leader of the [...]

    3. This is the second book in the Spellbent series by Snyder The third book, Switchblade Goddess, is due out sometime in 2011 I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I think if you liked the first book, Spellbent, then you will also like this one.The book is split into two parts The first part of the book starts right after Spellbent ends Jessie is under house arrest with Cooper, Pal, and friends She finds out that she can t control her new fiery hand when her emotions get out of control and ends up goi [...]

    4. I think I may have marked this novel down a bit than a normal person would have because I enjoyed the first book so much and am very disappointed in this one The novel begins cleaning up the loose ends that the first novel presented It felt like a chore to me, like I had to take out the trash and I would rather be playing video games I assume it s necessary, but I wanted to get to the actual plot Instead of building up to a great story, the characters are thrown into a portal and fall headfirst [...]

    5. I d rate it a bit better than average I like the realism of Jessie s rough language, and sex drive, but don t read this if some crudeness will put you off There is a lot of action not just the sex kind but it ends very anticlimactically I still like her former familiar, Pal, a lot I m not entirely sure about her boyfriend, Cooper, yet he still hasn t been show to his advantage But I m looking forward to seeing what developes in the next book with that, as well as with Jessie s family So far they [...]

    6. This is the second book in series following Spellbent which I enjoyed very much This one not so much as I felt the storyline was not as filled out stimulating enough as far as a layered plot was concerned Don t get me wrong it was ok but nothing special, the majority of the book is chasing down a soul sucking demon who has a her eyes on Jessie She finds out about her family her spidery familiar who is one of the best characters I would of liked to have seen Jessies relationship with Blue develo [...]

    7. I gave this book a chance because I thought there was a chance the author had improved between the first book and this one, but I was dissapointed I wasn t satisfied with any part of this story really, and I have no intention of reading any installments.

    8. Fantastic Very eagerly awaiting the next one now I will be reviewing both Spellbent and Shotgun Sorceress on my blog for those interested.

    9. More of the same A quick fluffy read Somewhere between urban fantasy and upbeat horror ghastly monsters that our protagonist smashes her way through without leaving the reader too disturbed Smuttier than the usual for the genre, but definitely not in a romance novel sort of way. This will make no sense if you haven t read the previous one in the series I read that one a year or so ago and had some disorientation reminding myself who was who and where we were.

    10. You may also read my review here mybookishways 2011 10 After the hell literally that Jessie went through to save her love,Cooper, she s ready to take it easy for a bit and adjust to her new powers We re talking about Jessie Shimmer here,so you can bet that s probably not going to happen. Her familiar,Pal,has changed from his cute, little, furry, ferret self into a giant creature somewhere between a ferret,a bear, and a spider, and Jessie is setting things on fire with her flaming hand yes, literally, mak [...]

    11. Shotgun Sorceress is the second book in the Jessie Shimmer series by Lucy A Snyder and a Fantasy from Ballantine Books and Del Rey.Book Blurb Burning Down The HouseFor Jessie Shimmer, everything changed when she went to hell and back to save her lover,Cooper Marron After tangling with supernatural forces and killing an untouchable spirit lord, Jessie finds herself gifted or perhaps cursed with dark powers And when she and Cooper make love, her pleasure throes light the whole house on fire What i [...]

    12. I bought this book Jessie Shimmer is a love her or hate her addition to the urban fantasy world, between her crudeness and the dark, dark nature of her stories you ll find very few readers taking a middle road Shotgun Sorceress is the follow up to Lucy A Snyder s Spellbent and the first thing you should know is that Lucy s a tried and true horror writer It s evident from her treatment of magic which really is like the dark and twisted, old school occult novels than the twee magical worlds you c [...]

    13. This book picks up almost immediately after the first novel Only a few days have passed Well, the first few pages start at the end of the book, but that s not a big deal.Liked I m so glad they fleshed out Cooper I am beginning to see why she would go through all the trouble to be with him Even if he was a raging ball of testosterone for half of the book, I at least saw a side of him that wasn t all about either sex or money Jessie s clearly obvious impediments It all works out in the end, but ha [...]

    14. In this second installment of Snyder s Jessie Shimmer saga, my favorite occult fantasy girl is coping with life after rescuing her boyfriend Cooper from hell she now has a hand that continually burns and is capable of firing super hero level power blasts if she removes her protective glove and now discovers that she has become possessed Not being able to control her hand one night while having sex with Cooper, Jessie nearly burns down her group s safehouse in Columbus, and when a group of powerf [...]

    15. Liked Jessie continues to be asskicking and just plain awesome She is a woman who does things She doesn t sit around and ponder her feelings nor does she put on the I m constantly a smartass which makes me a badass attitude endemic to UF PNR She just IS a badass Like I said, she does things Awesome things Learning about the characters from what they do instead of their thoughts and feelings is nice I like the author s style The world and system s of magic are really fun to read about They aren [...]

    16. This one picks up right where SPELLBENT ended and then takes off in a completely new and unexpected direction I d say that it s possible to enjoy the current volume without having read the previous one, but it would probably help a lot to have the full back story going in Why is Pal a big spider monster instead of a ferret, what happened to Jessie s arm and eye, etc It s actually two stories with a fairly well defined transition One can picture the Hollywood style hype that used to characterize [...]

    17. So I dug the first book in this series I sort of liked Jessie Shimmer, a warped and damaged young lady with a penchant for shooting off her mouth and bad judgment Pal was the equalizer and I felt for him in the first book.Warlock was an interesting character and so was Mother Karen. The world building was pretty sweet and the idea that magic isn t just faeries and fireflies was a breath of fresh air The grimness, the terror and the grittiness of the premise was great. Not so much in this book Gran [...]

    18. This is definitely a bit randy than the first book Everyone is sexed up for each other, and throw in some need to do some butt kicking, you ve got a great formula for some good adult fantasy.Jessie has got to sort all the loose ends from the first book, Spellbent, as this book begins And there were a lot of threads So, it starts off a bit slow, but necessary Than the fun begins The story jumps to Texas as Jessie and her boy crew have got to do some monster head cracking, but this time it s a f [...]

    19. 3.5 stars The book started out slow for me The end picked up and saved the book from a for sure 3 star The end read like the entire book of book 1 did Fast paced, lots of action The beginning, the whole early Cuchillo thing, was slow in the extreme I easily set the book aside and didn t feel compelled to pick it up for a day or so Still, I like the characters, the heroine, the idea of the story Will be reading the next when it comes out.SPOILERS Reminders for me Miko ate the Goadling that was p [...]

    20. This really let me down I was so blown away by the first book and thrilled to get my hands on the second But that was where the excitement ended This felt like a crap shoot, just throw a bunch of stuff in here, recycle some old things etc I don t know where all her creativity went, maybe into the first book and that was it But this was just boring and had no core, no rhythm to it We still don t et to see the relationship between Jessie and Cooper Secreting him away in a hell in the first book, o [...]

    21. Shotgun Sorceress,I strongly suggest you read the previous book in this series Spellbent prior to reading this book.I ve been anxiously awaiting this sequel ever since the last installment ended.Shotgun Sorceress takes off right where Spellbent left off and never slowed down Lucy Snyder s imagination is incredible This book was exciting, creative and magically action packed I was on the edge of my seat through the most of the book and I completely devoured this story.I highly recommend this book [...]

    22. I didn t enjoy it as much as the first one The storyline felt a little rushed, and some of the scenes that should have provided a rush of adrenaline and a satisfying feeling of victory from seeing our protagonists prevail, instead felt incomplete in their description and left me feeling a little let down Also, the liberal use of graphic sexual content felt unnecessary and gratuitous I think it actually detracted from the storyline, and some of it felt like it was only there for shock value, or t [...]

    23. This is a very good new urban fantasy series The magic using heroine Jessie is funny in an offbeat way, the stories original, and the characters interesting This second installment in the series starts exactly where the first book ended Jessie has just saved her boyfriend from a hell dimension and accidentally resurrected his 5 baby brothers with him, giving her necromatic side effects that aren t pleasant She s not sure what the governing council is going to do to her, but then as soon as it se [...]

    24. That ending was kind of WHAT But I really liked the book overall It would have been really painful for me to wait to read the next book but fortunately I won t have to It was a really messed up cliffhanger AnywayThis book is interesting but not much in itself Not a good read as a standalone for sure The story picks up right after the end of the first instalment and ends abruptly I m guessing it s just the middle piece of the main plot and didn t bother me much but I can see people not liking it [...]

    25. Shotgun Sorceress is the fun filled sequel to Spellbent Jessie Shimmer continues to fight against forces that are moving against her and her friends She is coerced into fighting a powerful succubus demon in rural Texas, and it is fun to see her outside her city element We learn about Jessie s character and past, and Jessie is forced to confront some of her own demons Shotgun Sorceress was enjoyable and quick, and just what I felt like reading at the time I ll definitely read the next book.

    26. Book 2 of this series, Jessie spends a good bit of time dealing with the fallout of her actions from the previous book, Spellbent Then she, Cooper, Warlock and Pal get maneuvered into going through a portal and end up trapped in a small Texas town quarantined by the powers that be in order to keep a powerful demon contained.I like Jessie The eye and hand are very cool. She has very course language, and there is a good deal of graphic violence and graphic violent sex.

    27. Okay, so Jessie Shimmer went to hell and back in Spellbent to rescue her lover Cooper That adventure cost Jessie her left hand and left eye Oh, and she found out she has dark powers So what does a sorceress do for an encore In Jessie s case, she tangles with a soul harvester An insanely sexy soul harvester This Jessie Shimmer novel was a real treat Enthralling, erotic, and just plain great I m looking forward to the next book in this series, Switchblade Goddess.

    28. The first book in the series set up a complex world, so this book needed addition info to put the reader back into it and I don t think it did Jess, Cooper, and Warlock end up in Texas and have to deal with another disaster It also ends in a big cliffhanger, so little is resolved by the end of the book.

    29. Whereas the first book in this series was original and unexpected for urban fantasy, this was exactly like all of the rest of the chaff out there I don t think there was an inch of character development, but there was a hefty amount of literary porn I will read the third book, but only because of the love I had for the first book.

    30. The adventures of Jesse Shimmer continues Jesse feels very real, unlike a lot of heroines and main characters in horror novels She reacts to events around her similar to anyone may, if you ran into pockets of Hell or had to kill devils Ya know, daily life.
