I hardly ever like books that focus on romance and leave intrigues in the background I prefer it the other way round Politics, action, blood and death are my favourite things in fiction Icy Pavements has them, but still, the progressing relationship between Peter and Guyon is the most important part of the book of Defending Walls as well I shouldn t have liked this novel, but I loved it for some reason I think the fact that their love blossomed slowly helped I m not a fan of instant love althoug [...]

Part historical intrigue, part beautiful romance a wonderful novel to be savoured rather than consumed in one sitting Complex characters, slowly but inexorably deepening feelings, vividly imagined historical settings and truly beautiful writing combine to make this one of those books I fell a little in love in with every page I read.
