    1. exactly why I read this I do not remember, but it is interesting and spurs several lines of thought first, there is the remoteness of place even in my mental geography, next, there is the search for, the desire of, knowledge alone inspired by romantic yearnings from youth, this engaging search for the meeting of ancient cultures, now lost, that flourished along the silk road in Central Asia, the meeting of Mediterranean and Chinese, Greek and Buddhist, through inhospitable, inaccessible, deserts [...]

    2. Read this book years ago great biography of a fascinating man explorer Sir Aurel Stein was on another adventure when he died in Kabul, Afghanistan was buried in British Cemetery I ve been to his grave site a couple of times and tipped my hat.
