    1. I was a bit worried about this one, since I don t read historical and I don t enjoy reading about WWI or WWII This little story wasn t like anything I expected thoughFirst things first If you intend to read this one, make sure you suspend your disbeliefs I am very openminded, but even I had to have a little talk with myselfThis book starts out pretty harsh It starts in the year 1945, when Karl is a radio operator on a German U boat They get captured by the Americans and Karl is immediately picke [...]

    2. This is definitely a book for the category WTF did I just read .I m giving this 3 stars because it started out really strong and because the second half was so ridiculous I couldn t stop laughing.Expect spoilers about the ending It started out pretty serious with Karl as a German U boat soldier in 1945 After they surrendered he was taken to the Naval Prison where he was interrogated until he died That part was very very sad and my heart went out to 21 year old Karl.Fast forward to present time w [...]

    3. When I sign up to review a book for a blog tour it is usually because the book jumps out at me in some way When I opened my kindle and read the authors note I thought what the heck did I sign up for I went and read the blurb and thought I must be losing the plot I thought I ve signed up so I ll read a few chapters and give it a go bearing in mind this isn t my normal kinda read.Firstly we read of Karl s heart wrenching story He went through what a lot of men sadly went through many years ago Jum [...]

    4. 2.5Before I write my review of the content I have to let you all know how much I love this cover It s beautiful The cover and the blurb did an excellent job of selling this story to me I LOVE a good ghost story As you can tell by my rating though, the story didn t work for me, and that makes me sad because I wanted to like it so much.I love everything about the premise of this story the setting, the characters, the ghost The writing just didn t work for me though It is really a case of an author [...]

    5. I feel like I was tricked The blurb leads one to believe one thing, the beginning of the story leads you to believe something really good and cool is going to happen And thene rest of the story happened I don t know how the beginning could have so much promise only to be corrupted by the rest of the words on the page book I am just in shock at how ridiculous this turned out to be Seriously, don t waste your time with this one view spoiler 1945, Karl is beaten and eventually killed after the war [...]

    6. This is a beautifully dark Gothic story about Karl who was a member of the crew of the German U boat that surrendered to American forces at the end of the Second World War He was kept a prisoner in the old Navy prison where he was tortured and killed.Fast forward seventy years later and Ben, a submariner, has to stay in the decrepit barracks next door to the old prison One day while exploring the old building he discovers the ghost of Karl Karl s sad spirit has been trapped in that building for [...]

    7. A powerful story about true love being found across the generations, the continents and the spirits Karl is a German man conscripted during World War II, and the early parts of the book go into his heartbreaking death Decades later, Ben, a member of the American Navy, crosses paths with Karl s story and his history And maybe his future as well Mitton has a powerful voice getting into the head of both characters, touching especially in their hopes and their fears Both men are revealed to be gay, [...]

    8. I have to admit that it usually takes me a little bit to get into a book but that wasn t the case with this one The prolog got me hooked instantly I am a person who likes to read anything that has to do with WWII so I found myself incredibly interested in Karl s world and life I also like how Mr Mitton didn t soften how the Americans were to the Germans I also like how the author used german words instead of english and didn t explain them I took German in high school so I understood the words r [...]

    9. There was just so much to like about this book I found the historical aspects interesting and really liked how the author used his own experiences as the basis inspiration for the story Karl s story was just heartbreaking and I couldn t help but get a little emotional as what he went through was re told it kind of brought home the message that monsters can be where you least expect them to be and that one man shouldn t be condemned for the crimes of his country I thought the story as a whole enj [...]

    10. This story is told in third person, initially from Karl s point of view, bless him, then Ben s As a reader unfamiliar with the history behind this story, I found myself equally fascinated and aghast My heart broke for Karl, I wanted to be able to reach into my kindle and wrap him in my arms, both his human form and spiritual being.Ben is an equally engaging character The interaction between himself and ET2 Erik Johannsen stayed with me for a long time, not only what occurred but also how Ben sec [...]

    11. , in its infinite wisdom, refused to let me update my progress on this book, so my updates are going to be incorporated into my review On reading this for the first time, I stopped at 25% when I began to think it was going in a direction I didn t want to take After leaving it on my Kindle for a couple of weeks I realised it was cluttering up my KY library so I returned to it, with the intention of reading from the start to give it a fair shot That was when GR stopped co operating.Initial thought [...]

    12. A Joyfully Jay review 4.25 starsMy Name was Karl is a ghost story, but not in a typical way There is nothing malevolent about Karl instead, Daniel Mitton is able to convey Karl s loneliness, his guilt at ever being part of the Nazi regime, and the unjust way in which he died Ben assumes this is the reason Karl has not moved on and plans to tell Karl s story, though this is not an issue that is fully resolved in the novella However, Mitton creates a strong bond between Karl and Ben and as their f [...]

    13. A love story and A story of war, love and a ghost I found Karl and Ben s story to be interesting and engaging This was quick and entertaining read I would recommend this book to readers that have an open mind and like to try new stories For me it didn t fit in just one genre it crosses lines with MM action, paranormal activity, and then add the military This was not at all what I was expecting but I loved it

    14. My Name was KarlYou never know where you ll find love, and Karl and Ed prove that I really enjoyed Daniels first story and can t wait to see what else comes from him.

    15. ARC RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW Wow This was one is DEFINITELY going to be in my TOP 10 READS OF 2017 I can t say a lot without giving the story away so, here s what i will say This story had mystery, love and passion but it also had heartbreak, pain and a whole load too It was so fantastically written that I just couldn t put it down I think one of things that helped me to enjoy this so much was the fact that certain aspects of the story were based on real events. This was an absolutely beautifu [...]

    16. Never thought I d put super sweet and ghost story in the same sentence, but those are the words I d immediately pin on this story It starts out dark, and I had somehow figured that to be the baseline Nope As things evolve and we move out of historic times and into the now, it takes a drastic turn for the not so disheartening aftermath of WW2 Karl was a WW2 German prisoner in a time where being German or gay sucked Ben is a navy guy in present time, and although being gay in a uniform still cause [...]

    17. Book Author My Name Was Karl by Daniel MittonRating 3 starsI love ghost stories If done right you not only get a glimpse into the past of the one that is a ghost, a mystery to solve, and some creepy moments, you get to see the character of the present time reacting to it.The first half of this story from the prologue from Karl s POV to about Chapter eight was phenomenal The somber, dark tone was set from hearing of Karl s death and even when Ben entered into the picture with the haunted prison B [...]
