    1. This is my first introduction to this series I did not feel like I missed much having not read the first book in this series A good testament of how well a writer, Michelle Cox is, is the fact that despite having not read the first book, I easily connected with both Clive and Henrietta as a couple They were so cute together I appreciated that Clive let Henrietta be herself and respected her brain smarts Before I go any further about this book, I just have to say that I was very pleasantly surpri [...]

    2. This book was interesting in several ways The poor girl marrying rich boy story is always very nice and when it all ends happily even better In this case our rich man never said he was actually filthy rich and heir to an estate He was just a chief detective and that is how our girl met him, whilst working on a case for him Henrietta realised that he was rich only when she visited his home and saw how difficult it would be for her to fit in On top of that the other twist in the tale, was that Hen [...]

    3. I enjoyed this second book in the Henrietta and Inspector Howard series which focuses on the budding relationship of newly engaged Henrietta and Clive, but does have a little mystery and an interesting family secret Very good story, and I also love the setting and time period I m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

    4. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review I would like to first and foremost thank the author for a clean romance The main characters are very mindful of preserving sex for marriage Things get a little heated a time or two, but there are no graphic descriptions, and Clive and Henrietta always remind themselves they want to wait until they are married At one point, Clive even points out once that though they are engaged, he wants to take her to the ma [...]

    5. I love the magical chemistry between Inspector Howard and Henrietta Michelle Cox does an excellent job of bringing the reader through the balance of new love and the self doubt that inserts itself in most new relationships Add the chaos that both of their families infuse into this story and you just never know what s going to happen It s a contrast between the 1930 s rich and poor in the Chicago area I m a little sad I finished without having the next installment as I like spending time with all [...]

    7. This historical fiction, mystery and romance was an enjoyable fun read The book takes place in the Chicago and surrounding suburbs 1930s so I was able to place some of the locations Henrietta is in love with a complicated man, Inspector Clive Howard While trying to be the person he needs her to be Henrietta stumbles on mystery which she attempts to solve Will be looking forward to the next book This is book 2 of the series.

    8. 10. I won this novel in a drawing.Jane Austen is updated to 1930 s Chicago, and our principles try to salve a mystery.Way too cutesy for me.

    14. A Ring of Truth picks up where A Girl Like You left off, but also takes the story line and characters into a fresh, new direction Henrietta is immersed into a new world and journeying with her as she navigates the ins and outs of upper class society was interesting and engaging After I was finished, I couldn t wait to read the next book in the series

    20. This is the second book in the Henrietta and Inspector Howard series I did not get to read the first one but if I ever get any reading spare time hahahahaha I have added it to my ever growing list These two characters, Henrietta and Inspector Howard are the kind that pull you in right away and you want to keep in your world. In this book Inspector Clive Howard , who is really wealthy and of the Chicago nobility for lack of a better word is bringing Henrietta home to meet the parents He did not te [...]

    21. A Ring of Truth is not a mystery novel It is a period romance with only the tiniest touch of mystery a stolen ring Most of the novel is devoted towards class related angst as Henrietta fears her family s poverty and lack of education make her an inappropriate bride for Inspector Clive While the novel is well written, the whining tone makes it difficult to bear Henrietta is a sweet heroine, innocent and good intentioned We see far less of Inspector Clive He is two dimensional the prince to Henri [...]

    22. The second Henrietta and Inspector Howard story, A Ring of Truth finds Henrietta and Clive engaged and learning about each other s backgrounds Much of the novel deals with Henrietta adjusting to Clive s considerable wealth, a fact he kept from her in their early courtship While staying at Clive s family estate, Highbury, Henrietta learns about her own parents, too She struggles to fit in as a lady of the house and feels much at home in the world of the servants, which gets her embroiled in a [...]

    23. In this second book of the series, newly engaged Henrietta and Clive discover that meeting each other s families is proving much difficult than they imagined Clive failed to tell Henrietta that not only was she engaged to an Inspector in the police force but also an heir to the Howard estate and fortune Set in Chicago during the 1930s, Cox paints a grim picture of the poor, and the luxurious lifestyle of the rich Henrietta is overwhelmed by the food, clothes, and mindset at the Howard estate, s [...]

    24. Oh, how I missed Henrietta and Clive This time they re in a new setting with its own unique challenges Cox does an excellent job conveying the nuances of upper class society, as adeptly as she did with the seedier side of Chicago in the first book Much attention is given to Henrietta s struggles to adapt to this new world and her place in it As other reviewers have noted, there is far less mystery in this book That is the reason I subtracted one star I wanted to see Henrietta and Clive solve a b [...]

    25. Fascinating to read, just loved it I think this book is even interesting that the first one in the series I enjoy the author s elegant writing style and attention to detail which makes me feel as if I were right there, experiencing everything with the characters Cox is writing with the muscle of a man and subtlety of a woman, perfect for this type of story in my opinion Can t wait for the next book to find about what happens next.

    26. Henrietta Von Harmon, age 19, and Inspector Clive Howard, age 36, are newly engaged Clive is a Chicago detective The time period is the 1930s The main theme of the book is the couple meeting each other s families and coming to terms with their polar differences In addition, a minor mystery over a ring is introduced in the story, and family secrets are exposed in the Von Harmon family I consider the story to be a family saga and less of a mystery or focus on Clive s detective work. His detective w [...]

    27. Because this series by Michelle Cox is called Henrietta and Inspector Howard , I ll admit I was expecting something a bit different More of a cosy mystery, where the mystery had a central role, if in a cosy way.Turned out, this is a romance with a mystery side thread, which was disappointing for me which is entirely me, not a fault of the story.Even if I m not at all into romances, this was nonetheless a good one The characters are well rounded and sympathetic and don t normally go into the kind [...]

    28. Who would have thought that a poor girl from a large family would catch the eye of a wealthy man Henrietta came from a large family, one that scrambled to make ends meet and put food on the table Clive was a police inspector, but, unknown to Henrietta, he came from a very wealthy background Will Henrietta fit into the wealthy snob set once she is introduced to his family following the announcement of their engagement Or is there something in her heritage, a mystery that even she didn t know, tha [...]
