    1. Darkness at Every TurnDetouring from my well worn path of reading genres in the guise of True Crime and Women s Fiction, the title and synopsis of this story cast me under a spell to acquire a novel shrouded in Dark Fantasy and Witchcraft Hence, I willingly suspended my skepticism by slipping through the portal to Enchanted Falls. While this literary work could benefit from minor editing throughout, the merits of the author s writing style and storytelling prowess overcompensate for a superficial [...]

    2. Where to begin This was an enjoyable read, with well rounded characters I came to care deeply for The story moved along at a fast past, with many unexpected turns While Kayla is beautiful and brave, Chris is definitely my favourite character as I feel that he is the most complex He is a tortured soul with many secrets to hide, none of which he is able to share. For a remarkable tale of magic, loss, and good vs evil, Secrets of the Mind is hard to beat.

    3. Secrets revealed in a fascinating new paranormal seriesMy past is all a blur, a wet painting with all the colours merging into one, destroying what once was.Kayla is an orphan who is in her late teens, living with her loving foster parents, until she gets mugged at the mall and suddenly her previously unknown Grandmother sends for her In this way Kayla begins to discover who she is and what strange history lies behind her mysterious origins. This is classic, golden age, young adult, paranormal ur [...]

    4. This story relates a teenage Kayla s realisation that the world she lives in is not the world she was born to be in Her mom died when she was a child so she lives with foster parents, but she experiences nightmares and poor sleep, and cannot understand why Then her grandmother turns up claiming custody and moves her to a place she s never been before, Enchanted Falls, a place inhabited by supernatural beings.Kayla finds out she is a witch, and for some reason dark forces are after her, and these [...]

    5. If you re a fan of paranormal genre then this book is definitely for you It tells a story of Kayla, an ordinary teenager living quite an ordinary life only, as her birthday approaches and her grandmother appears at the door of her house, Kayla realizes that nothing about her is ordinary it turns out that she s a witch, whose life is in great danger What I really enjoyed in this story is the voice of the main protagonist Kayla is a very strong and opinionated girl and her inner remarks make the s [...]

    6. This is a fantastic book with lots of intrigue The characters are well developed and and the plot very exciting I would recommend this to anyone who likes YA.I have to also say that the cover is very eye catching and did a lot to make me pick this book up.

    8. Secrets of the Mind was an interesting even intriguing read The story is a good one, the world building gives tantalizing glimpses of a magical world most of us wish we could visit Not everyone dreams of being in a fantasy setting, but I know when I was a teenage girl, I would have loved to learn that I had magical powers and a special destiny Of course, dreaming of that while reading a book is quite different from what the reality would be E.J Bennet captured the horror of the main character, w [...]

    9. 10. Kayla is a normal girl living with her foster parents after her mum died in an accident Or so she thinksShe has no knowledge of her past and one day her Grandmother turns up out of the blue and takes her away to live with her What Kayla discovers turns her world around A fantastic dystopia novel with witches, werewolves, darkness, mystery and secrets What came to mind when reading is Harry Potter meets The twilight series with darkness thrown in Recently I have started reading books without even [...]

    11. First person books are notoriously difficult to get right Not everybody manages it However, Bennett manages to pin it down just right with a mixture of insight and attention to detail She tells Kayla s story from the point of view that she has forgotten her past and that her childhood memories have been wiped out What follows is a trip into other words through Kayla s mind and an assortment of nightmares This is a great story which balances the psychological elements with just the right amount o [...]

    12. Secrets of the mind was an intriguing ya read A journey of a young girl, Kayla, when she s trying to figure out what really happened in her childhood. The plot immediately drew me in, the mystery of Kayla driving me forward and wanting to know The characters were well thought, and the plot took me into the places I didn t expect to go Danger and mystery held my interest from the beginning until the very last page I m sure teens and young adult readers can relate to this story, but others much ol [...]

    13. Kayla, a young girl who has lost her memory, is taken in by a family After years of nightmares she begins to unravel her past, not in dreams, but in reality The story unfolds in first person and then switches POV Characters were lively and the plot went at a good pace. There is good interaction between Kayla and her grandmother and at the end of the story, no spoilers, I was left wondering if there would be another book.A very satisfying read.

    14. Interesting story Characters are well rounded Kayla has no memory of her childhood and she is haunted by nightmares The line between reality and imaginary is thin A grandmother suddenly comes into her life and Kayla s direction takes an interesting turn This is a fast pace thriller.

    15. Nice story, but really just the beginning to a larger series 1st person POV narration takes a little to adjust to Give us

    16. The story has an interesting premise Kayla has no memory of her childhood, and horrible nightmares plague her every night I ve seen the amnesiac POV before in other stories, but am always interested in seeing how things play out in a new novel. However, I did have a few issues with the story One was with the narrative The frequency of missing commas, run on sentences, missing subjects, and occasional misspellings, made it difficult for me to fall into the rhythm of the story An example from Chapt [...]

    17. While I would give the first half of the book 4 5 stars , the second is needs polishing and editing, so for the whole, I give it a 3.In the first half, I loved the author s poetic description Ie People s coats rustle like autumn leaves, tapping shoes echo on the tiled floor as everyone goes about their daily business Kayla, the story s protagonist, suffers from nightmares and amnesia, which were caused by an accident that killed her mother However when she is told, your life is in danger I fear [...]

    18. Uncaged Book Reviews Kayla was adopted as a child by Clara and David As her birth mother died in a horrible car accident, she can t remember any of her childhood even though she does keep having weird nightmares Dreaming of a women who she is convinced is her guardian angel One day after an attempted robbery gone wrong she is badly hurt So out of the blue an older women turns up claiming to be her grandmother and forces Kayla to go to Scotland with her Where this will be her new home, Kayla s gr [...]

    19. Kayla has no memories of her life when she was a child before being found by her, now, foster parents after a car wreck At 17 all she s ever wanted is to know about her past but when strange things start happening that seem to come straight out of the nightmares she has every night and a grandmother suddenly comes into her life the explanations suddenly leave her spinning Kayla seems to be a mix of strong independent young woman and a total pushover and it really was quite a contradiction I enjo [...]

    20. I gave this book a four because this fantasy was fast paced and kept moving me through the story.I dreaded some of the violence I encountered, but this is simply because I enjoy relaxing when I read a story and do not like to come up against physical conflict But clearly, impressions change depending on the reader and often these impressions have nothing to do with the author This fantasy is delicate, mostly sweet, and thoroughly delightful Kayla is about to come of age and does not seem to reme [...]

    21. This is an absolutely riveting read that keeps you on your toes Going from an orphaned girl with no memory of her past to being drug off to a far away land by a women claiming to be her grandmother One being in this new land that finds himself drawn to her, but every time they see each other he has to start again as her mind has been wiped clean time and time again If this sounds like something that would interest you then take a trip with Kayla as she struggles to wrap her head around her new s [...]

    22. There s some good potential here and Kayla is a well rounded character, she is easy to relate to The premise is an interesting one and I d definitely be interested to hear about the world surrounding her It s an easy read and I enjoyed some sequences in this book, though a bit of fact checking and an editor would help An interesting book, that feels unfinished.
