Wow I couldn t put this book down On one level, it s the story of Stacy and her husband Roger and their families But one another level, it s much darker, with the underlying tension slowly but steadily building The author has created realistic characters who could be your neighbors or friends Resist the temptation to jump ahead to the ending, and instead savor every word of this powerful novel.

    4. Dark and mesmerizingyou know from the moment you meet that gun that this story won t end well The couple whose lives we inhabit starts so charmingly in that Boston muffin shop, and their charmed lives are so enviable They have it all until they don t Marian Thurm takes the reader on an utterly credible journey Hard to put down.

    5. Good book It definitely had a strong ending Kind of a surprise Didn t turn out like I thought, which was good. This guy, Roger, buys a gun and doesn t tell anyone, in the first page of the book So you tear through the book to see where he ends up pointing it.

    7. A Well Written Story Stacy and Roger are a family on the way up Both are educated, she is a social worker, and Roger is a real estate developer With two children, they seem a happy couple, but that isn t the case Roger is failing, and the good life is not what it seems This was a strange story, one that I would not normally read We know there are dysfunctional families in all walks of life, and marriages often titter on the brink of ruin, ending sometimes in violence The publisher sent the book [...]

    9. The downward spiral of a husband who had it all His wife could care less about the lavish lifestyle they once had, but he feels he has failed her and their two children.

    10. An easy read , at least the first 90% I enjoyed the storytelling of past and present time.learning the start of the relationship and the events that lead up to the current situations.

    11. An average readThis book was just good enough.I got annoyed at her continuous addition of new characters which did nothing to add to the plot.

    12. I received a free copy of The Good Life by Marian Thurm in a give away from in exchange for an honest review This is a story revolving around a husband, Roger Goldenhar, his wife Stacy and their two children Olivia and Will From the first page of the novel, the reader knows something horrific is going to happen Marian Thurm begins The Good Life with Roger buying a 9 mm semiautomatic Glock She does a good job telling the story switching back and forth from present to past In this way, she gives t [...]

    13. The first half of The Good Life worked well, if predictably A woman in her 30s, Harvard graduate, working in a non profit social service job with what is now being called the unhoused population meets a man about 10 years her senior, long divorced and falls in love Sort of She s not sure what love is supposed to feel like, but this man seems like a good idea Harvard educated, a real estate whiz with fingers in a lot of property pies, and apparently successful Both are Jewish, in a nominal way, l [...]

    14. The word which comes to mind is bland I tried very hard to get into this book and found myself on page 60 something and not knowing what I d just read I was half asleep At 10 00 AM in the morning Okay, I m getting old Still, it didn t capture my interest, attention, or anything. So, no rating as I didn t get far enough to give a fair one.Won through Giveaway program, thank you.

    15. Portrait of a marriage tale that just grew and depressing While well written, it isn t the book you should be reading if you re prone to moodiness or going through a bad cycle But if you re into that kind of thing, go for it.

    16. very good read so sad though because roger placed so much value emphasis on material possessions, and not what really matters in life i feel sorry for him tragic end.

    17. The was a lovely story right up to the end I am so mad at the author for the killing at the end.The story could have taken a different turn and ended happily I like happy endings.

    18. I thought the book was going somewhere Terrible ending I may have wasted my tome Touches too close to the home I grew up in.
