    1. Real rating 3.5This was a truly delightful book It was fun, funny, and had a pretty interesting plot pushing it along While it does contain some of the common flaws found in middle grade, such as underdeveloped easily exchange able characters and simplistic writing, I still really enjoyed it This was a book I would have loved in elementary school, and, heck, I really like it now I look forward to the sequel

    2. I received an advance review copy from publisher via NetGalley A HUGE thank you to NetGalley the publisher for this opportunity to read and review.Easy, entertaining read that brings us a different twist on the origin of the djinn I think this book is very close to being able to compete with Kerr s Children of the Lamp COTL series So lets compare COTL and Rebels of the Lamp ROTL TITLE Rebels of the Lamp I don t get the title Maybe I missed a wink wink or a quick one liner However, this title doe [...]

    3. E ARC from Edelweiss Above the TreelineParker Quarry is living in California with his mother, who is struggling to make ends meet since Parker s father is in jail Parker has trouble fitting into his school and also willfully gets into trouble, so his mother decides to send him to New Hampshire to live with an aunt and uncle Parker s cousin Theo isn t thrilled to see him, since Parker has always been unkind to him Parker continues to get into trouble, stealing his uncle s keys to the university, [...]

    4. This book deals with some heavy material In the first few pages a character loses his entire family and is maimed There are, for the first half of the book, two storylines, one starring a group of 7th graders in the present, the other set from 1200 B.C 900 B.C The two time periods have distinct writing styles that feel appropriate to the time, characters, and events The quick switches between time frames keeps interest in both stories high as the trio of twelve year olds are set on a collision c [...]

    5. I received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review When Parker finds a magic lamp and accidentally releases a genie he thinks everything is awesome, but he becomes drawn into a war between genies that could destroy the entire world Parker This book was filled with magic and adventure But the pacing was inconsistent At the start, and the end the pags were flying but the middle was bogged down and slow going This book will find an audience, because there will always be readers looki [...]

    6. The authors created a wonderful spin on the age old battle between good and evil While the war is between the genies, the wizard who first created them will regain his powers if any of them are destroyed This wizard will be bad news if he returns Fon Rahm is a formidable genie, but his actions are controlled by a seventh grade boy Boys that age don t always make the best decisions, and Parker has never put much trust in friends The dynamic characters undergo significant changes, sometimes reluct [...]

    7. Although the writing was a bit raw and underdeveloped, I really enjoyed this book Parker was definitely entertaining, and although the characters weren t much developed per se, they were very much alive They each had their own personalities and quirks and we re all very likable I would like to hear about Vesiroth though He confused me a bit He seemed to bounce from soft hearted but broken to completely corrupt very quickly His cruelty seems almost misplaced in the face of the kindness and compa [...]

    8. Great start.ed down in the middle Uneven characters are fairly flat and some quite obnoxious Good plot Anticlimactic ending 3.5 stars
