    2. Sometimes you read a story, sometimes you listen to a story, and if you are lucky, sometimes you feel a story The last I consider this a rare gift Not only were these authors able to create such powerful emotions my blood hummed, but they left me sated while craving What a treat Short stories are especially tricky to pull off How do you draw the reader in and give them a satisfactory ride in a few dozen pages I can t imagine it s an easy feat However, this wasn t lacking in the slightest and th [...]

    3. This solidly penned story delivers a surprisingly thorough and sweet tale of grief, loss, and new beginnings Frontman rocker Devon is devastated when he finds fellow band member and friend, Chad, dead from an overdose in an adjacent hotel room Spiraling into a pool of despair and self blame, Devon runs from the press to his parents home, hoping the paparazzi won t think to look for him there With his parents out of town, Devon finds what he s been desperately seeking some alone time But after a [...]

    4. I read this story, which is part of the Dreamspinner Mended 2014 Daily Dose Anthology yesterday and couldn t remember anything about it today It was cute, but it was not memorable Devon, a rock star mourning the passing of his friend and band mate, stumbles into a cozy bakery where he meets Michael, the kind owner baker who takes it upon himself to care for Devon, bringing him groceries and keeping the paparazzi away Everything about this story was vague There was no background information about [...]

    5. I enjoyed this story of Devon who is a rock star and loses his best friend and bandmate to drugs He field incredible guilt even though he had spent years and even the night before trying to keep his friend from self destructing but learns in the end that you can t stop people from doing what it is they want to do if they are determined enough In an attempt to hide out from the press, Devon returns to his hometown and his parents empty house, but he needs to walk and eventually ends up at the bak [...]

    6. I didn t really warm up to Devon mr everything is my fault and I deserve to be blamed for other people s mistakes , and Michael was maybe a bit too nice Somewhere between 2 and 2.5 stars.

    7. This one is a quick read, a well done hurt comfort novella that deals with some heavy things I liked the MCs and would have loved to read a longer story about them.

    8. Reviewed at The Blogger Girls.Famous rock star, Devon Bailey, returns to is hometown to grieve his best friend and bandmate who overdosed while they were on tour Emotionally fragile, Devon just wants some peace and quiet well away from the media and any fans When he breaks down in a bakery, he s comforted by Michael, an old classmate from high school Noticing how vulnerable Devon is, Michael takes it upon himself to help Devon as much as he can by giving him a shoulder to cry on but with Michael [...]

    11. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it That is a good summary of the lesson Devon learns once his best friend has committed suicide and he, for the first time since he was seventeen, has to face the reality of his life Yes, he is rich and famous, but no, that has not made him happy He has sacrificed his personal life, he was never able to come out, and he hasn t done anything real in years than he cares to remember He has a lot of growing up to as well as learning how to deal with [...]

    14. A Joyfully Jay review 3.75 starsThis story was a very slow study of grief and guilt Devon is devastated by the death of his best friend and blames himself Michael sees an opportunity to take care of Devon as he buys Devon groceries, cooks for him, and when needed, stands up for him Michael is so nurturing that he calls Devon, honey, on many occasions and has the urge to kiss the top of his Devon s head, reminiscent of an elderly Southern woman.Read Michelle s review in its entirety here.

    15. Devon and Michael were so good together and Michael was exactly what Devon needed when he needed it It hurt to read about Devon s guilt and heartbreak over the loss of his oldest friend I would have liked a little about Michael as himself and not just from the perspective as Devon s caretaker I liked his character a lot and wanted a little depth for him.

    16. I really liked Michael I guess I was expecting a story about food based on the cover and not about grief I wondered if we d get any romance This was just an okay short story.
