    1. The Gifted Dead is the first book in Jenna Black s new Gifted series and she has created an interesting new world where you have both the Gifted, people with extraordinary gifts, and normal humans The Gifted are all connected to a super conscious known as the Anima, which is made up of the souls of previous generations of Gifted, they each have their own spirit guide who will set them quests and if they achieve their goals they are rewarded with Gifts that will help them in the future Only the s [...]

    2. So nice I had to read it twice Loved this the first time around but loved it even the second Jenna Black has created a complex and absolutely fascinating world filled with scheming, power hungry characters who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. It takes some time to get to know each of the players, find out their motivations, and understand the hierarchy of the Gifted, but it is so worth it The three major families the Farradays, di Tommasos and Almeidas are all seeking control, each h [...]

    3. I was so excited for a chance to review this book for Jenna Black I ve read most of her books and enjoyed all of them I even enjoyed her young adult Faeriewalker series, and I m not a huge fan of the young adult genre I will start off saying that I had a hard time with this book at the beginning, but that could ve been me I was reading for twenty minutes here and thirty minutes there So I had a hard time getting into the characters and who was who, etc However, once I sat down and got to read fo [...]

    4. The Gifted Dead by Jenna Black I admit that one of the reasons I wanted to read this book is the cover Jenny of Seedlings and Supernatural Snark first brought this to my attention because she designed the cover I was intrigued by the cover and the blurb The cover really is connected well to the story and you will see why once you read it The second reason is the author Jenna Black I have enjoyed her past books and so I was looking forward to this book.I admit that sometimes fantasy is quite slow [...]

    5. Overall I really liked this book Because of the title I thought that the book would be about vampires so I was pleasantly surprised to see how the title actually fit into the novel At the beginning it was a little bit hard to follow with so many characters and story lines, but once I got further along I actually liked the different perspectives Many times I would find myself starting to hate a character, but once I saw things from another point of view my opinions would change This book definite [...]

    6. I can understand how this book might not be for everyone The beginning is slow and character heavy, you constantly switch between characters and are left to figure out which point of view you are in by reading the first couple of paragraphs, there is little to no actual action in the book until the very end, and as an adult book it deals with some very heavy and triggering themes rather frequently Most important and perhaps off putting to potential readers, is that every piece of the novel is ab [...]

    7. The Gifted DeadBy Jenna BlackFour out of Five starsThe Gifted Dead is Jenna Black s first book in her GIFTED series The book drops you into a world of political games and intrigue from the beginning The world building is wonderful and sometimes frustrating simply because it is a lot to take in and follow at times The series literally takes place all over the world The Gifted Dead is also overwhelming at times due to the large cast of characters and the struggle to keep them all straight At times [...]

    8. Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION s Pack Alpha Chelle Copy gifted in exchange for an honest reviewOh what a tangled web we weave.Jenna Black joins the masterful prose I am so fond of with a thrilling new concept that takes the whole 6 degrees of separation concept and pairs it with some heavy duty political intrigue, all bundled up with some very cool preternatural world building for a book that most definitely pleased I was told that The Gifted Dead and the GIFTED series were Game of Thrones mee [...]

    9. I was a little nervous about starting this one to be honest, I knew there would be alot of characters and I usually have trouble keeping up with who is who However, I should not have worried, Jenna gives us enough each time on a character to be able to easily place them Wonderful building of a world It was like a political fantasy novel Characters are developed then woven together.I enjoyed it very much and look for to the next book in the series.

    10. This was an intriguing opening volume The semi religious basis of the Gifted political hierarchy is reminiscent enough of the Catholic church to lend an instant sense of familiarity, particularly in the machinations involved in selecting a new Patriarch Black s construct of the Gifted race has enough complexity to keep you interested but is not so convoluted as to make you confused I m definitely curious to see what happens next.

    11. I received this book free from Aardwolf Press Kismet Book Touring in exchange for an honest review This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review Genre Urban Contemporary Fantasy Rating 3.5 First Thoughts Full Review after Blog Tour EndsIf you like Fantasy set in modern times where the Gifted rule the roost, you will definitely like The Gifted Dead The story has been sold as the Game of Thrones meets House of Cards Since I haven t watched, or read either story, I can t o [...]

    12. House of Cards meet Games of Thrones is a great description of this book, with the exception that both of those are TV shows, and THIS NEEDS TO BE ONE I loved this book It took awhile to get familair with the large and I do mean large cast of characters and multiple pov s However, once I was in the world of the Gifted, I didn t want to leave We read this book for my book club, and we had a lot to talk about was this a veiled criticism of the Mormon church Is David on his own quest to get Mel whe [...]

    13. Even though this is somewhat different to Jenna Black s usual writing, and despite the fact that I found one or two of the plot twists a bit contrived, I still rather enjoyed it.I think it would make for a rather interesting TV series, as that is pretty much what I had happening in my head At first I wasn t sure about the multiple POV s, but it didn t take too long for the switches to become like scene changes And with all the subtle complexities happening throughout the story, I think there is [...]

    14. In THE GIFTED DEAD, we are introduced to a new world There are the Gifted and the UnGifted those who possess magical gifts and those who do not Each of the Gifted has at least one gift, but can be asked by the Anima, through their spirit guide, to take on Quests which will earn them new gifts if successful However, lately there has been a change in the Anima, hidden grave desecrations, and hidden political agendas which will come together to change the Gifted world irrevocably THE GIFTED DEAD is [...]

    15. I took way too long to read this, oops but I did finally finish and I thought it was okay, but not great When I read the premise, I was intruiged There s this whole world of Gifted people, and they have this whole government system and everything I love reading about these new worlds and how fantasy worlds set up their governments, so I liked that part of this book We had a whole set of characters, and they were incredibly different from each other One was a prostitute, one was an Elder, one was [...]

    16. I won this off as a Giveaway What a political ride. This book splits between several deifferent characters Everyone relates to one another in some way This takes place in a world where there are gifted and ungifted Some believe in the Anima, which is similar to God The Anima is all knowing, but it can never give direct answers to the Gifted Questions Each gifted person has a spirit guide, and aquire their gifts through quests These gifts range from various things, but they all play a role with th [...]

    17. Although this genre isn t in my usual must read pile, given that it s of a political thriller with intrigue, the paranormal slant and the fact that it s written by one of my favorite authors compelled me to give this a try I found it a bit difficult to read for any length of time at the first, given the amount of characters involved, but quickly found myself involved in the increasingly evolving story The way she has written this makes it pretty easy to follow along, as she goes between charact [...]

    18. Holy shit The book ends, and the narrative goes right off the rails bet you didn t see that coming In terms of sheer fright, in regards to the risk rewards ratio one expects the novelist to dole out to characters, Jenna Black tips the scales so much, you re left without a map or compass No lie this book s got a great finale, leaving you hungry for WTF No bullshit she doesn t play unfair, she comes up with a whole new set of rules, and its scary For fantasy lovers who like there parallel worlds [...]

    19. This book is different than others from this author being a paranormal suspense thriller The storyline uses multiple points of view so it takes longer to get into the characters and see the plot take shape The paranormal premise is unique so is a refreshing change from the now common urban fantasy vampires, werewolves, etc The tension and plot are good and many of the characters are engaging Beware, though, that is something like a serial where each book is a volume of the main story The Gifted [...]

    20. Painstakingly slow in its development the book is filled with great world building, well developed characters, political intrigue, this brings to mind the traditional fantasy world with a modern twist.I m a character reader get into what makes characters tick, why they do what they do This book has many meaningful characters it takes the author a great deal to time to develop them and then time to interrelate them into the story as a whole The way the book ends you know there is to come

    21. If you like political plots this is the book for youI am not a political person, so I didn t enjoy the book very much There were too many characters It took forever to finally remember who was who and how that person was related to the other characters Luckily I have no plans to read the next book in the series Can you imagine trying to remember who all those people are a year from now

    22. 3.5 starsThis is touted as a Game of Thrones style epic urban fantasy Interesting, no I really liked the book It had a large cast of characters, with switching POVS The world building was novel, and the action was compelling What holds the book back for me is the writing style It s not really suited to me, but that doesn t discount the fact that the book is interesting and if you enjoy UF, you should give it a try.

    23. So I just wrote a super long review and it got erased before I could send Basically I was saying that the book was boring until the end and then I got hooked The author says in a note in the back of the book that if She doesn t get enough good reviews, she won t be able to write the next book Why then, did she leave off at a giant cliff hanger I couldn t bring myself to give stars, so hopefully others will give rave reviews so that I can find out what happens.

    24. Normally I like this author and I was excited to see the start to a new series from her But this one confused me I didn t like how the Anima wasn t explained or what being Gifted was As this was a big part of the story it left me floundering to figure out just what the heck was going on or who the players were After spending 45 minutes and only getting 25 pages being frustrated I decided that this one just isn t for me.

    25. I really enjoyed this The beginning started a little slower than I liked but the book became cohesive once all the characters and plot points were on the board The world building is expertly done Switching between multiple P.O.V.s, the narrative is intricately woven with politics and intrigue and the characters are well fleshed and engaging I will definitely read the next on in this series.

    26. Volume 1 of a highly political fantasy set in somewhat alternate modern Earth U.S and Western Europe The characters most of them, anyway stand out as well developed, versus one note Recommended.

    27. Good but complex I would details on the gift It will be interesting to see what Ms Black does with the next book in the series.

    28. Loved the book, hated the cliff hanger And it s not available at the library studio it will be a while before I can read the next one.
