    1. If I had to pick a word to describe this book it would be tedious It seemed to just go on, and on, not quite knowing what to do, or where to go with all the characters that had been created I haven t read any of Sophie Hannah s previous books, so wasn t aware that there was actually a Culver City series featuring the partnership of Detectives Simon Waterhouse and his wife Charlie I m not sure this book has inspired me to read others from the series. The book starts off with an advert from a websi [...]

    2. A meticulously structured puzzle, but with an utterly unbelievable plot and characters It s as if Hannah is only interested in putting the pieces of the puzzle together, in a cerebral and sterile way, and cares nothing for what the finished picture actually shows, or means It s a page turner though, in the sense that you need to know how she s going to resolve the convoluted mystery I m not sure if this is any better or worse than her previous works, most likely I ve just grown tired of them Loy [...]

    3. Coming April 24th from Hodder and StaughtonThank you kindly to Hodder and Sophie for arranging an advance reading copy.Stuck in a traffic jam, Nicki Clements sees a face she hoped never to see again It s definitely him, the same police officer, stopping each car on Elmhirst Road Keen to avoid him, Nicki does a U turn and makes a panicky escape.Or so she thinks The next day, Nicki is pulled in for questioning in connection with the murder of Damon Blundy, controversial newspaper columnist and res [...]

    4. Sophie Hannah has an extraordinary talent She takes an array of fine ingredients Complex, believable heroines Unusual, seemingly impossible, crimes Thought provoking, contemporary concernsAnd she ties them up into complex knots that appear impossible to undo, before throwing the whole thing up into the air with a flourish and having it land as a clear picture, that you could never have foreseen but that you have to accept makes perfect sense. That makes distinctive and compelling crime fiction.I [...]

    5. Woman with a Secret is unfortunately the second book by this author that I have not been able to finish It is the 9th book in a series and to me, it didn t hold up well as a stand alone I was expecting a thriller but it was just dull I made it about 25% of the way in and gave up It kind of rambled and I found myself re reading parts to figure out what was going on.There were a few reasons that I didn t care for this book First, I didn t like the way it waffled back and forth between Nicki s firs [...]

    6. There was very much of this part psychological thriller, part murder mystery that I liked very much, and it was a refreshingly different slant on a familiar basic story but some of it jarred a touch with me.The main premise surrounds the potential involvement of a woman in the brutal murder of a controversial journalist columnist Sections of the tale were narrated from the POV of this woman, and I found her a compelling and unique character, with her thoughts and deeds very interesting to follow [...]

    11. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this brilliant book.Simon and Charlie are back Yay After reading all of the previous books in the series, I am over joyed to read the next one I just love those two and the way these stories are so cleverly put together. As usual, we have a complex mystery Internet emailing and obsessional behaviours combined with marital mayhem A woman with a gift for telling porkies, who has an intimate relationship over email, sharing secrets with a [...]

    12. I m writing this review in the middle of the night, an hour after having read it s last page I can t get over how perfect this book was, and I feel I must write this review before being able to find sleep This makes it possible this review is clouded by some feeling of a thrill, but even if it is, that alone is spectacular and very rare I rate very few books five stars, and even fewer I would call perfection to boot. But this book was perfection And a perfect detective story at that I ve read per [...]

    13. The Telling Error is the ninth in the Culver Valley series which features the extremely clever but somewhat odd Simon Waterhouse and his wife Charlie who solve the fiendishly complex psychology to explain an equally intricately planned crime. The book starts with a post on Intimate Connections website with a post entitled Looking For A Secret , the post then goes onto describe a murder scene and appealing to the murderer who the author is certain is female Who would post the question and would an [...]

    14. In recent years there has been a spate of murder mysteries written by female authors about mysterious women Gillian Flynn s outstanding novel of suspense, Gone Girl, topped the best seller charts for months, only to be replaced some time later by The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins I ve reviewed both Now here comes Woman With a Secret, presumably intended to snare the same broad audience Between you and me, I could have stopped reading in this genre after Gone Girl Enough, already Sophie Hann [...]

    15. I won this Giveaway Thank you Nicki is a compulsive liar She can t help it Plus she has secrets that she keeps from her family and friends There is only one person she shares her secrets with and that person is a stranger she converses with via email Unfortunately for Nicki a man she knows or does she is murdered and Nicki is a suspect More lies A husband wife detective team investigate Initially I really like this twisted mystery even though I truly hated the character of Nicki A liar, cheater, [...]

    16. Once again Sophie Hannah has woven a tale that has kept me on the edge of my seat and unable to move until I finished this read I had to get up in between to feed the family but couldn t wait to get back to reading it.The beginning of the book is so entrancing to me, as she is returning to the school to take her son s forgotten gym kit she is stuck in traffic, then seeing a Police Officer that somehow figures into this equation of what, I had not idea yet but she had to avoid him at all costs Th [...]

    17. Title should be Chronic Liars and Obsessive Cheaters with Secrets then I wouldn t have bought it and been disappointed Like the blurb on the back cover it was off to a good start, Nicki and her sister in law balance each other well Then the wheels fall off, did this novel know how it was going to end before it was half finished It is a who done it with a decent murder but poor clues There are four Stooges that play the cops and a clich of a female character that I wished someone had knocked off [...]

    19. Si pudiese le daba 10 estrellas Es de esas novelas que no puedes dejar de leer, pero que al mismo tiempo no quieres que se acabe.

    20. This is a story that is so much expansive than the reader could ever imagine.Saying that it is about character a or b, doesn t seem appropriate either As the plot has less to do with the particulars of what happened the murder of one Damon Blundy and to do with how the secrets kept by all suspected, led them to be suspected, convicted, or acquitted.Nicki Clements is a great many things a mother, a wife, and a woman with a secret A secret that makes her heart race in her chest, a secret that ma [...]

    21. Sophie Hannah s latest release is unbelievably timely Over recent months here in Australia I ve been listening to shock jocks and reading columnists ranting about all sorts of things they can t possibly believe And in an increasingly online and interactive world thought bubbles in the form of tweets and online comments become powerful and destructive Nicki Clements is on her second trip to her children s school one day when she recognises a police officer who once saw her at her worst Her action [...]

    22. This is Sophie Hannah s ninth novel featuring Culver Valley and chief protagonists Simon Waterhouse and Charlie Zailer It doesn t feature them enough, IMHO, and instead features a dizzying array of characters and voices. There s Nicki, her husband and children, her friend who s married to her brother, murdered Damon Blundy s newspaper columns, Blundy s wife, a politician and her husband, a novelist and his wife, a disgraced athlete and his mother, Simon Waterhouse, wife Charlie, Charlie s sister [...]

    23. I ve read a few of Sophie Hannah s books but not all of the Culver Valley series, so I was quite looking forward to this one as I had enjoyed her previous works. This is one of my least favourites Admittedly it has been a while since I ve read the others, but I really wasn t overly taken with it It started off well, though I didn t particularly take to any of the characters including Nicki, but it was engaging enough Then it just started to veer into pages and pages of detail and extra characters [...]

    24. I loved this It was a very complex mystery, much like a puzzle You had corners or incidents that were obviously important, but Hannah doesn t make it clear why they are important Nor does she even begin to show us the big picture until than halfway through I actually thought I was reading a couple of unattached stories that were going to collide at the very end, but really, every single scene hinged on another, you just couldn t see the hinges until the finale This was the definition of a page [...]
