As a way of ending, I would like to illustrate how the characters in each story can be argued to reside in a singular world Ina in A Dream of Women felt that she must hurry, hurry, before the next jeepney sweeps her up and drops her by the roadside like a tiny white kitten 21 quite resembled in I See my Shadow on the Pavement, where the female character must finish the mad dash across the asphalt, past the baking metal hoods of jeeps and buses that could burst into life any moment and mow me dow [...]

This book has a flavor I would describe inexplicably as heady and heavy Depressing It was difficult to stay interested in the characters since their woes were mostly of their own foolish doing and most of the stories ended bleakly I felt the characters were written to be droll and relatable in their frustration, indecision, weakness , but I just didn t care for them that much.

    3. honestly did not finish the book while the stories have quite interesting plots, it builds up momentum that gets you hooked towards the middle but only to end with disappointment
