    1. I thought this was a great book I really felt for the character, Kate, and how she went through the different stages of her life and dealing with the absence of her mother and dealing with the absence into her own motherhood I love the writing style and love a book that makes me pay attention but is still so easy to read Great mystery to the book and how Kate will deal with each stage Great weekend beach read for the summer or anytime Love the ending

    2. Marcie is an intriguing novella written in the first person narrative that delves into the dysfunctional family relationship and quest of a young woman to find the answer to her mother s mysterious death and journey to healing and moving forward with her life.Author Carly M Duncan weaves an emotional tale that draws the reader into Kate s story of seeking answers and closure after her mother Marcie is lost at sea in Guam in February 1977 Kate s story follows a timeline from February 1974 when Ma [...]

    3. Most of us would be devastated by the loss of our mother, especially at a very young age But Kate doesn t have a typical relationship with her mother, Marcie, for so many reasons.Growing up, Kate was pushed aside and forced to grow up way too fast One of her biggest dreams is to some day have a child of her own so that she can be the mother she never had Kate goes through many trials in her young life, not the least of which is having two absent parents Fortunately, she has a boyfriend who wants [...]

    4. Marcie by Carly M DuncanI received this book in exchange for a honest review This book is a fast read with a wonderful mysterious element It had me intrigued through the whole book Kate is a great strong character with the will to solve the one thing that is plaguing her This book also shows how a strong spirited girl becomes a woman through the tribulations, struggles, and responsibility that she faces which forces her ideals about what and how a family is and also how love is The writing is wo [...]

    5. After the mysterious death of her mother, Kate is left with many questions but no answers As she moves on with her own life, Kate searches her childhood memories and talks to family members trying to find the truth. This novella is a quick yet engaging read Written in the first person, we see Marcie through Kate s eyes We watch the disintegration of Kate s dysfunctional family and feel the pain of Marcie s regrets toward the end of her life While the ending was not entirely unexpected, it still c [...]

    6. Marcie is an interesting novel looking at family dynamics in a dysfunctional family and how one family member tries to deal with the loss of her mother.Marcie and her mother were never close, but when her mother dies, Marcie has a hard time accepting that her death was an accident She spends her adult life, first, trying not to make the same mistakes that her mother did with her own children and second, looking for answers to what really happened to her mother on that last day I had a hard time [...]

    7. This was an amazing read I especially loved how the story was formatted, jumping from present to the past which also provided a great way to give a back story to each character I also enjoyed the few chapters of just Charlie s letters to Kate, thought that was a nice touch that really helped strengthen their bond Personally, I related so much with Kate when news broke of her mom s passing and the regret she dealt with but also the anger she had built up inside When my dad passed away years ago, [...]

    8. The inspiration for this story came from my grandmother a woman who I never got to meet, but someone who haunts me every day No, she does not literally haunt me If she did, this novel would be in a different genre My middle name is Marcella It s her name one I carry on Marcie has always been a highly mysterious non prescense in my life and, for that reason, I decided to honor her in telling a fictional, completed version of her story It is my own idea of the person she was, the things that she s [...]

    9. From the first word until the last, Marcie is a captivating, mysterious and gripping read Having known the author and followed her blog work and writing in the past, this came as no surprise From the moment you pick up this book, it s difficult to put down with an unforseen cliff hanger at the end It s a quick read and, if anything, it leaves you wanting from the characters and from the author I have a feeling we will see just that, much , from the Carly M Duncan If you haven t already, order [...]

    10. Carly M Duncan pens Marcie in a fast paced plot filled with emotions I truly thought this book was going to be all about the mystery of the death of a young girls mother, but what I found was a moving story of how the girl finds her way through the grief and heartache of losing her mother and how her love endures throughout it all Between the well written plot and the author s strong characters, I found myself totally captivated and would highly recommend this to all. This review is based on a co [...]

    11. Marcie is Kate s mother who dies, although Kate never was to close to her mother she feels devastated She holds on to her mother s husband. She is in search for answers and her digging slowly pays off and she finds family secrets She keeps on digging to find out about her mother s dead and will she ever find the answers she so want The story is nice but I thought the setup was a bit chaotic but loosing I could understand Kate s journey.

    12. I love this book The prose is so intimate and raw that I found myself wondering, am I reading someone s diary But no, it springs from the heart and mind of writer, Carly M Duncan And the theme is so important for us all to ponder in the face of heartbreak and unyielding challenge, how do we create a beautiful life for ourselves Kate, the fearless protagonist, overcomes such ties that bind and in so doing, teaches a valuable lesson keep moving forward.

    13. I like this book It was a quick read I felt that the writer was writing from her own childhood relationship with her mother, but I saw from the author s note that isn t so Parents do the best they can for their children and in a child s eyes it might not seem so We can acknowledge the difficulties, move on and make ourselves stronger from the experience of knowing that parent good or bad.

    14. With her character Kate, Carly Duncan captures perfectly the spirit of a young girl as she faces the trials and tribulations of becoming a strong woman Forced to deal with unraveling family secrets and crushing responsibility, Kate s struggle is one that ultimately defines her and forms her ideals of what it means to be loved, and to be family And THAT s something to be proud of 5 5 stars.

    15. I was hooked from the beginning not only wanting to find out what happened to Marcie, but to learn about Kate I enjoyed Kate s complex relationships with all involved in her life Marcie was not just a story about loss and sadness, but of strength and love It was a quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

    16. Marcie was a read I couldn t put down and my only disappointment was that I finished it too quickly The author built such a strong connection between the reader and the protagonist Kate and I found myself so invested in this book and the outcome of Kate s story Carly Duncan is one to look out for and I cannot wait for future works by this new and exciting author.

    17. A great page turner This book is a fast read because the reader, just like the protagonist Kate, is yearning for answers It keeps you engaged and desperately wanting to know what happens next Kate is a wonderful, thought out character She is real and insecure, but strong and confident all at the same time If you want to get lost in a great summer novel, this is your book

    18. This book makes me want to go and see my mom I felt sorry for Kate because she missed out on family life while growing up She s a smart gal and creates a life for herself A quick read book that touched my heart.

    19. This is the only book I have read since my son was born and it was FANTASTIC It s a quick read, well written and has a gripping story Pick it up for the beach, bedtime or that morning commute on the train Highly recommended.

    20. I won this book on giveaways.I really enjoyed this book and the way its written however I feel it lacked a lot of information that could have been there This would have made a great full length novel instead of a short story.

    21. I really enjoyed reading Marcie It is a quick read, and holds your attention from beginning to end I have read this book multiple times already, and the ending gets me every time Awesome job, Carly I hope you write

    22. I had a difficult time connecting with this book for a lot of reasons I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review Full review to come.

    23. Read reviews like this at lovelybooksblog I m not usually one for realistic fiction but I ended up liking Marcie than I thought I would A short story about death, family and relationships Duncan was able to pull off the incredible feat of making a short story have meaning and depth More often than not shorter novels and short stories have shallow characters and a weak plot just because there isn t enough time to really develop any strong ideas, however in Marcie Duncan is able to create both s [...]

    24. This book wasn t really for me I prefer books that aren t as confusing and also books that I don t have to pay attention to everything in it to understand it As soon as I started reading I was confused and I did have to pay close attention to everything and also the dates that the book changed to as well This book took place in the 1970 s and 80 s and I haven t really read a lot of books from these time periods so I wasn t really sure what to expect I liked that it went from the main character s [...]

    25. I received this book from.I was slightly confused with this book as if I missed a line I may not have understood the whole book I didn t like how the chapter changed to the past I would have preferred the book to be in chronological order because I get confused with what is happening Parts of the book had a bit of pace in the story when Marcie dies but the rest of the book was quite slow to read I also found that the book didn t have very much detail it seemed rushed an didn t have too much dept [...]
