    1. I sought out The Trial of Tompa Lee because I know the author s work, and admire his playful and profound voice The novel made me cry and kept me awake long into the night as I pondered its nuances I confess to preferring novels that don t make me weepy, and yet, I heartily recommend this read Hoornaert s clear and pleasing prose sucked me right into the plight of Tompa Lee, a woman abandoned by human society twice in her young life When she is falsely accused of a terrorist attack against Earth [...]

    2. The Trial of Tompa Lee is a superbly written, well paced Science Fiction by Edward Hoornaert With an artistic flare of conveying imagery, Mr Hoornaert convincingly transports a reader into a world where an orphaned girl named Tompa Lee tries to raise herself from poverty and make a name for herself in what she perceives as the perfect career in the Commerce Space Navy.On her first visit to an alien planet, Tompa comes across alien radicals whose hatred, misunderstandings, and distrust of humans [...]

    3. I wasn t sure how to rate this book a 4 or a 5 Parts made me angry at certain characters But when I consider how many emotions the author put me through, I decided a 5 was appropriate The heroine wasn t likeable at the beginning I wanted to kick her to speak up for herself I know she had a good reason, in that it never did any good before She s too defensive, and suspicious, and doesn t speak when she should The author did a good job with her rationale, and there was a good character arc I put t [...]

    4. I am not usually a science fiction fan but decided to try this book it took a couple of chapters to get into it then I was hooked couldn t stop reading I especially like the emotive way of speech from the Shon characters

    5. Must ReadAfter awhile I started thinking in the language of the aliens, that is how engrossed I was into this book.

    6. This one surprised me The title and cover art didn t catch my eye No, it was the gut feeling I got while reading the blurb I ve learned to go with my gut, even when it doesn t make sense right away I found some of the imagery blood and brains and situations the near gang rape of Tompa, the actual rape of Dante Dante was Cosby d by Ambassador Schneider , and the violent deaths of a couple hundred Shon by Tompa a little disturbing, but not in such a way that I couldn t handle it.Hoornaert manages [...]

    7. 2.5 stars Well, this book was definitely different and not entirely what I expected It was well written but in the end, it just wasn t my cup of tea If you like a lot of introspection and some thought provoking looks at social behavior you might enjoy this For me, I was a little frustrated and annoyed by the main character as the book went on and was dismayed by the Navy s willingness to scapegoat one of their own It is not a typical military science fiction read it lacked the space battles, loo [...]
