Self published Book Review Sorrel in Scarlet by Peter Vialls Sorrel in Scarlet is an old fashioned sword and sorcery tale with just a little bit of early industrial technology , which put me in mind of Edgar Rice Burroughs s John Carter series, not least because of the abundance of red and the scantiness of clothing But there s also the obvious parallel of the heroes finding themselves lost in a strange land and coming to the rescue of the people there. 1. Well written and gripping The characters are well developed and the plot well thought out The author has a fantastic vocabulary and I was constantly learning new words The world he has created is not your usual fantasy and I can t wait for the sequel.

    2. A Hidden Gem Among Indies 4.5 stars This is a well done novel about a female protagonist warrior sorceress stranded on the ground of a world she lives above heretofore ignorant of its habitation Also stranded somewhere below from their crash is her enemy Okay, already, with the red imagery in the beginning chapter It did, however, help to drive home the anger, pain and inner state of the protagonist, Sorrel At first her only focused objective is to somehow get back to the upper world She walks i [...]

    3. A creative fantasy offering Sorrel in Scarlet is a well conceived fantasy adventure about the heroine, Sorrel, who is trapped in a hostile and unfamiliar environment, when she is forced to adapt and overcome in order to survive In a way, it s a cross genre story a bit of steampunk mixed into the fantasy as this universe exists with both magic and industry I would have enjoyed learning about the co existence of these two forces, as they seem to contradict each other, but just a few hints are giv [...]

    4. A marvelous refreshingly written book Not that it does not have its flaws two much hack and slay in the end it got boring with the time, as not really anything new came along , Sorrel became too much of a superhero without any real drawback The end in general was the weakest part of the book But, it is definitely worth reading I bought this book for my daughter who had it on her wish list for her birthday and started reading when I had planned to wrap it nicely I nearly forgot, that I was short [...]

    5. Sorrel is a pilot, rebel and trained sorceress, who starts her tale of adventure walking away from her crashed triplane Her co pilot is dead and she is badly injured, but she uses a magical jasq creature which she took from a dragonlord named Wrack to begin to heal herself She is from the surface world, but her damaged plane has fallen into a wide, long, seemingly bottomless and perpetually cloudy crevice in the world When she is rescued from the crash by a band of human refugees, she discovers [...]

    7. Sorrel, escaping from the Dragonlord Wrack, lands in the Chasm, a place that was long ago relegated to myth and the belief that nothing could exist in it To get back to her old life, she must join forces with Wrack to escape, or defeat, beings who till now she thought were mythical Problem is, they re intent on gaining something precious to both her and Wrack.I enjoyed reading this debut novel Peter Vialls has constructed a very different fantasy world from the normal fare found on bookshelves, [...]

    8. I enjoyed this immensely Peter weaves an interesting story into an alien backdrop that doesn t seem quite so The main character of Sorrel was fairly well developed and meshed well with most of the other supporting roles I felt there was an overuse of the customized cuss words and the relationship between Sorrel and Wrack seemed a bit contrived and somewhat clunky, but that is just a personal feeling and doesn t detract enough from the overall story to stop reading All in all Sorrel in Scarlet wa [...]

    9. Very enjoyable tale of dragons, unfriendly animalspeople , warfare and magic A well written, engaging story of Sorrel and her adventures after crashing and regaining her magical ability, to the detriment of her former master, who just happens to be part dragon. If you enjoy, sword, sorcery, dragons, magic or adventure, this is the book for you Looking forward to the sequel.
