    1. Yasmeen Premji is married to one of India s most successful industrialists Days of Gold and Sepia is her first novel It is a rags to riches tale, which traces the life of Lalljee Lakha a fictional character from the moment that he becomes a child orphan in his village in Kutch Western India until his death in Bombay, where he has become an extremely wealthy industrialist.Lalljee s life spans the period between about 1868 and 1948 Mrs Premji s story hurtles from one incident to another at breakne [...]

    2. The book had potential and I really wanted to like the book and the characters The prologue was enticing, but then it just dwindled to a cliched rags to riches story I would have liked a little bit depth and detail, without which it just didn t engage me enough It s a decent but very stereotypical Indian read.

    3. Just finished reading this one I would rate it 3 on a 5 pt scale However, I would recommend this book for a beautiful glimpse into my favorite city Mumbai If you enjoyed the gritty Mumbai of Shantaram, you will love the glamor and grit of the birth of this city.

    4. This book has one of the most intriguing and interesting prologues Less than 2 pages but it makes you read the book hoping that if the rest of the book is half as good as the prologue, you have hit gold in terms of an interesting novel.I am not so much into fiction but probably because this book has Mumbai of preindependent India as a backdrop and also had some decent reviews, ordered this book thru flipkart. This is the story of Lalljee Lakha and his journey from the wasted lands of Kutch to his [...]

    5. This book delivers what is promised on the cover It s an old fashioned family saga novel without any poetic frills or special features extras The sweeping story of Laljee s rags to riches story uses turn of the century Bombay as the intriguing backdrop Even for non Mumbai wallahs, it is always interesting to reflect on the growth of a mega city in such a short time would be great to read similar novels based in Tokyo or Jakarta The novel does suffer from some cardboard characters who barely evol [...]

    6. 400 pages and a meandering story with no real punch The book delivers less than it promises So here is a goodbye, I feel sad to leave this half read But sorry I cant spend any energy hoping for it to evolve into a wonderful story or book

    7. This book was wonderfully written It gave me wonderful images of Bombay in its heyday under the British Empire In some parts I wish there was a bit some parts of the book fast forwarded a bit quickly , but overall it was a very enjoyable read

    8. Very average writing Seemed like everything in Laljee s life conveniently worked out So one was never really invested in the principal character But overall an easy read.

    9. Brilliant, absolutely rivetting read Don t start it if you have assignments and other work to do Nothing will get done.
