  • He would have to find some way to protect himself, some weapon The fire worked well when it was burning, but it had burned down His hatchet and knife would have done nothing than make the bear really angry something he did not like to think about and his bow was good only for smaller game He had never tried to shoot anything bigger than a fool bird or rabbitHe would have to find some way to protect himself, some weapon The fire worked well when it was burning, but it had burned down His hatchet and knife would have done nothing than make the bear really angry something he did not like to think about and his bow was good only for smaller game He had never tried to shoot anything bigger than a fool bird or rabbit with it and doubted that the bow would push the arrow deep enough to do anything but again make the bear really mad He bundled in his bag that night, the end of the two weeks of warm weather He kept putting wood on the fire, half afraid the bear would come back All the while he tried to think of a solution But in reality, the bear was not his primary adversary Nor was the wolf, nor any animal Brian had become his own worst enemy because in all the business of hunting, fishing and surviving he had forgotten the primary rule Always, always pay attention to what was happening Everything in nature means something and he had missed the warnings that summer was ending, had in many ways already ended, and what was coming would be the most dangerous thing he had faced since the plane crashed.

    1. survivals for me this book wasn t as fun as the first one the book seemed less immediate than hatchet maybe because of the way it was presented as a what if , rather than a regular story, the stakes seem lower, even though it is exactly the same it s like a writer s exercise than a proper story or maybe i am reading too many woodsy type books too closely together i will pause now and get on with my summer of classix teeny books, get thee behind me

    2. 3.5 starsI enjoyed this book than the first As I read, I realized that most of what bugged me in Hatchet was Brian himself His emotional outbursts and the way he thought about his parents made him seem a few years younger than thirteen, and it bothered me the whole time But this book is all about survival A problem arises, and Brian solves it As long as you can get past the fact that this is a what if book but really, all fiction is a big what if anyway , this is a great sequel to Hatchet.

    3. Until last month, I didn t even realize that Hatchet had a sequel Turns out, it has four How did I not know this I skipped over The River, the first sequel, for the time being, as it seemed like a repeat of the first but with an audience Although I have to confess, I ll probably be reading it sooner rather than later But I was intrigued by the synopsis of Brian s Winter What if Brian hadn t been rescued, and had to ride out the winter in the Canadian wilderness Would he survive Spoiler alert he [...]

    4. Again, I review that I love these books, not only am I a Gary Paulsen Fan, but I also like survival books and if you like survival this book is not for you The book takes you back to the spot where we left Brian, the Canadian Wilderness This time instead of setting the radio transmitter of Gary Paulsen writes about a diffrent ending to the book Hatchet Brian finds the survival kit and continues to hunt for small game and fowl bird as he calls it Brian knows that the seasons are coming and he mus [...]

    5. This book is totally not good Like it s bad Real bad If you like romantic comedies, then don t read it It s about a man and then the man totally dies If there was a way to give it a zero then I would Nasty What an ugly book What a sorry excuse for a use of my time Waste Heartbreak That s all this book will bring you.

    6. Being Alone in the middle of nowhere isn t very fun, but being cold and alone takes it to a whole other level just ask Brian Robeson Brian s Winter is a continuation of Gary Paulsen s book Hatchet Actually it is a reimagining of what would have happened to Brian Robeson if he wasn t rescued and had to get through the cold Northern Canada winter alone Brian almost misses the signs that winter is coming, but when he finally gets it he realizes that he has a lot of work to do There are many things [...]

    7. Brian s Winter by Gary Paulsen picks up where the character Brian left off, had he not been rescued In his foreward, Paulsen said that he received as many as 200 letters a day from readers saying that they felt that Brian s story was not finished, that he was rescued before things got really tough In order to read this novel, you have to read it with the pretense that when he retrieved the survival pack from the plane, he did not turn on the radio signal With winter on the horizon, Brian s real [...]

    8. I read Brian s Winter by Gary Paulsen, I thought the book was good in some ways It started out in the early stages of fall and worked its way into the winter including all the changes that had to be made just to survive He had to kill for food and clothing Brian spends a great majority of his time in his shelter to stay warm and not freeze to death in the harsh winter The main character of this book is Brian He is a very brave, tough, and intelligent boy who is trying to survive in the northwoo [...]

    10. Personal Response Brian s Winter was a great book from the series of Hatchet Also this book was based on a series of events that happened in this timeline.Plot Brian is lost in the woods and is surviving out in the wilderness alone as a survivor of a plane crash As winter approaches, Brian is hurrying to make up for lost time About a month into winter there are gunshots across the lake and another plane overhead Brian believes himself to be hallucinating these things and dismisses them Another m [...]

    11. I love Gary Paulsen, and every signal book he makes They re just so awesome and well awesome Brian s Winter pretty much follows after the first book Hatchet , and shares the story if Brian never got out of the Canadian forest before winter So now his whole conflict is Winter I though it was really cool how Gary would give us readers this story even when it wasn t even meant to happen with the ending of Hatchet The book just really goes into detail how Brian prepares for the closer coming winter [...]

    12. 14. Personal Response I read Brian s Winter by Gary Paulsen I thought this was a very good book, because I have read the previous books and they kept on getting better and better He knew where the animals were and how to hunt them He set up his camp under a rock by a small lake in Canada, where he only killed what he needed, and used the whole animal for tools and food.Plot Brian s Hunt was about Brian Robeson who was a thirteen year old boy and survived in a wilderness with a winter that came fast [...]

    18. Austin HammondEnglish 12 5September 25th, 2014Brian s WinterI just finished reading Brian s Winter by Gary Paulsen I thought this was a very good book It was one of those books that you didn t really want to put down It was very eventful and always had something new in store There was a lot of exciting events that happen in this book, anything from him getting attacked by a bear, to him spearing a moose The biggest adventure for him I feel was him having to learn to live off the land and make th [...]

    19. This is an amazing book based off of what would have happened to Brian if he were not rescued before the winter struck him in the northern Canadian wilderness It shows many scenarios that went very badly for Brian, such as the bear attack, that destroyed his shelter, and then the fact that he was so worried about the bear coming back that he didn t begin to think about preparing for the winter he was about to face For example, he never began to ready firewood to help him through the winter, he [...]

    20. I thought this was a good book because he went in the wilderness and is living off the land and verry little things that people made, he is living by himself He knows the enviornment and when he hunts he knows where the animals are and how to hunt them He set up his camp under a rock by a small lake in canada When he hunts he only kills what he needs and uses the whole thing for tools and food In the book it is winter going into spring, he is going down river in a canoo to visit some friends tha [...]

    21. Brian s Winter is a fantastic novel Written by Gary Paulsen, this novel explores the story of Brian Robeson, a young teen who survives a horrific plane crash over the Canadian wilderness Unfortunately, Brian is then forced to survive in these minimal and isolated conditions for an extensive period of time This books provides readers with an alternative story to the conclusion of the novel Hatchet, Gary Paulson s first novel in the Hatchet series In this alternative story, Brian must survive in h [...]

    22. My personal response I think this was a very we ll written book The way Gary Paulson had only one main character and how he managed to still make a great story just around him was amazing The Plot This is about Brian Robeson who is thirteen years old and is trying to survive in a wilderness with winter coming fast He is not prepared for it at all He has no clothes or food or anything He has to learn to do a lot of things a normal thirteen year old boy would never have to do He learns throughout [...]

    23. Summary First Brian starts off in the woods This book is a continuation of the Hatchet book So right now Brian has been stuck in the woods for over 50 days notices that its about to turn into the winter So now he was looking for shelter and a better weapon then from what he already had, which was a hatchet So what he did with his weapons was killing animals for food and clothing to survive In the end Brian finds that in a hundred meters from him there is a Native American family that is living t [...]

    24. Read by Malinda, Summer 2006 The book that I read this week was Brian s Winter by Gary Paulsen I picked this book to read because I had read the book that came before it in the series with a student that I was tutoring This book is about a 13 year old boy who is in a plain crash The small plain that he is flying in goes down in a small lake and the pilot is killed The plain crash does not happen in this book but you are given enough information to know that it happened Brian has to survive on hi [...]

    25. The title of my book is Brian s Winter , and it is the sequel to Gary Paulsen s last book, Hatchet This book is about how Brian must have survived if he had n teen rescued and like Gary Paulsen states in the summary What if Brian had been left to confront his deadliest enemy winter Although I disliked the book, I must admit that the author Gary Paulsen does a great job of emphasizing the fat tat you must never give up in this cracking read that shows how Brian is set to survive winter by learnin [...]

    26. Brian has been stuck in the woods for a whole summer due to his plane crashing on the way to his fathers house While Brian has been there he has learned how to hunt, build fire, and survive on his own This book tells the story of what could have happened to Brian during the winter if he wouldn t have been rescued when the summer ended One thing I really liked about the book is that it was very realistic It teaches you a lot about what really happens in the woods in a realistic way Also, I really [...]

    27. Brian s Winter was a great book It is a direct continuation of the famous book Hatchet by Gary Paulson In this book, Brian is still stuck in the Wilderness after his tragic plane crash back during the summer He has been surviving, hunting rabbits and foolbirds and catching small fish in the nearby lake He notices the temperature beginning to change He realizes that winter is slowly approaching, and that he is not nearly prepared enough for it He needs to change his entire point of view on his si [...]

    28. At the end of Hatchet, Im thirteen year old Brian Robeson, who has been trapped in the Canadian wilderness after a plane accident, decides to dive for supplies from the submerged aircraft I almost drown I recover, among other things, an emergency transmitter Within hours, a pilot receives the beacon and rescues me The book ends with a note that I, learn wilderness survival through trial and error, probably would not have survived the upcoming harsh winter I read Brian s Winter by Gary Paulsen, w [...]

    29. Brians Winter is an ok book I like how much smarter he is in this book, but it was also fun to read about how much he learned about survival He doesn t really do very much in this book other than hunt and get rescued I don t like it taking place in winter because he can t hunt any because all of the animals would be hibernating for the winter I think this book could have been better.Brian Robeson s story doesn t pull me in as much in this book After surviving in the woods for months on his own, [...]
