    1. 4.5 5 stars, rounded up due to lack of half stars Going into this book, I wasn t exactly sure what to expect It s labeled as literary horror I haven t read much horror so far in my life But I do want to start I think this was a great book to start with It s very hard for a book to scare me, so I knew that wasn t going to be a factor with this horror There were many times in this book where I could say I was creeped out though There s some graphic killing and recollections of traumatic events in [...]

    2. Mirrors of Anguish, further known as MoA for the purposes of this review, centers around the town of Belcorte, Pennsylvania where a series of killings has taken place over the course of many years with the killer still on the loose Jill Duport, the main character of MoA, inherits her grandfather s infamous house there after the passing of her mother Apparently a murder had taken place in the house, supposedly committed by her grandfather, on a teenage girl Though the former chief of police Reed [...]

People who know me, know that I like to be scared It has always been this way movies, books, I even used to have a subscription to Famous Monsters of Filmland Fortunately, recently, I was given the priviledge to read a book that gave me chills Do yourself a favor and read Mirrors of Anguish by R P Kraul, especially if you are a fan of the horror genre In my humble opinion, Mr Kraul s book is a fantastic and scary addition to the literary horror genre It simply rocks Here s why I like it Kraul is [...]

    4. If you were to look at the labels for my books on , you would find that I ve read very little horror This is not because I don t like horror It is because there is very little horror that I find to be good, and actually finish I grew up on a farm in Indiana We lived in the 100 year old farmhouse that had been my great grandmother s before she passed away It was a house that she claimed was haunted I grew up in that old house watching horror shows You know the ones that had you screaming at the c [...]

    5. This is another one that s been in my TBR pile for quite a while Glad I finally gave it a read First off, this is a book that challenges the reader The author notes the influence of Lovecraft and Poe in his introduction, and those influences are apparent It isn t just the subject matter, but the manner in which the book is written, with the assumption that the reader can put on their big boy pants and handle the heavy lifting The vocabulary isn t archaic like Poe or Lovecraft, but the author doe [...]

    6. It took me awhile to digest the bit of bone this story left behind in my mouth The writing in this book was often stunning It forced me to go back and reread certain sentences and phrases again and again, which is something I love to do R.P Kraul can paint some seriously moody and creepy scenes with his words.Parts of this book made me cringe, and I m a been there, done that horror fan I don t squirm easily, but there are particular scenes that will stay with me for a long time.Jill was a fully [...]

    7. RP Kraul s Mirrors of Anguish The Belcorte Murders is a tale that transports the reader back to the horror tales of old It bristles with classic elements a forgotten town with a tragic past, unwelcome townsfolk, a vulnerable but determined young maiden, a haunted house, ghosts, and layer upon layer of secrets From the first sentence, Kraul s tale drips with latent menace, and he increases the tension and terror like a true master little by little, at first, lulling the reader into believing he s [...]

    8. This book took me back to some of the truly great horror stories of HP Lovecraft It had the suspense build up, where you knew something evil was lying under the surface At first you would think this is a thriller story about a serial killer Then you get a little over halfway through and everything goes to hell I have to admit I had wtf moment then I m not going to spoil it for you because you need to experience it.One of the great things about this book was the imagery that left scenes burned in [...]

    9. If you like the horror genre, this book is a must read It is everything that horror should be Suspenseful, shocking, gory, and totally twisted I loved every minute of it, especially towards the end with it s superb climax This is one of those stories that stay with you The kind of thing bad dreams are made of I highly, highly recommend this book.

    10. Darkly beautiful prose, but a horror novel then a mystery thrillerMy first impression was that how hauntingly beautiful the words came together to form indelible pictures pulling the reader into the Gothic mood of the book No question this author envelops the spellbound reader in an atmosphere of the most exquisite horror.
