    1. True to the English Village Tradition, it s time to have a wedding with its accustomed dance and feast and cake lots of cake I could almost hear The Archers signature music playing in the background as we read this book But all is not as dull as weddings often are it can t be This is Brambly Hedge after all I usually hate weddings but this one was all right.Barklem captures the idyllic atmosphere of sleepy summer days and spices things up with her usual mousey fun.

    2. I was so disappointed that I m still waiting for spring to be available at the library, because I d have liked to start with that one, partly because it s spring, and I suspect it s why it s checked out I ve now read 3 of the 4 books in this set Summer Story, Autumn Story, and Winter Story. The pictures are adorable and so intricately detailed I was less impressed with the story than the pictures The pictures make these books. Both the pictures and story, especially the pictures, made me very hung [...]

    3. Some of the best children s books ever I used to love the Brambly Hedge adventures as a child, reading about these kind and gentle and often mischievous mice in the Brambly Hedge community Almost better than the writing itself are the finely detailed, intricate drawings of what the mice get up to weddings, dancing on party barges, huge summer store rooms, and a winter palace carved from ice Lovely.Filled with wonderful names like Poppy Eyebright and Dusty Dogwoodally, just whimsical and lovely b [...]

    5. Summer Story by Jill Barklem was the second book I read in the Brambly Hedge series and this one particularly stayed with me as I watched the warmer weather bring out colorful flowers, blue skies and fluffy white clouds Romantic and full of drawings of the mice of Brambly Hedge trying to keep cool on damp river banks and under overgrown plants, the two main characters in this story, Poppy Eyebright and Dusty Dogwood, have an encounter that culminates into an important ceremony Clad in long dress [...]

    6. Absolutely delightful A simple, sweet story accompanied by extremely complex pictures this book and series are a continual delight.

    7. When I was but a tiny lass with a hey, ho, the wind and the rain I loved the Brambly Hedge books For some reason I remembered them today and decided that I must share them with as many people as might stumble across this because there must be people out there who have never heard of them and that is a tragedy. There are a number of stories, all about a number of field mice who live in Brambly Hedge The orginal four stories Summer Story, Autumn Story, Winter Story, and Spring Story were followed b [...]

    8. For the story, think Beatrix Potter s Peter Rabbit stories with mice and without the sometimes surprising lapses into violence that forcibly remind you that Potter wrote in a different cultural context In Potter s world, Mr MacGregor has a distressing habit of stalking through the pages taking potshots at the cast with his shotgun That sort of thing doesn t happen in the Brambly Hedge. So a charming story, but it was the illustrations with their incredibly rich detail that won my heart Small wond [...]

    9. Barklem s offerings are pure, old English countryside Their brevity adds to their charm I would gladly hear the quiet, soft adventures of these small creatures, any day Along with Mole, Peter Rabbit and the rest of the rural folk, this is a warm, comfortable slice of an idyll.

    10. This was a beautifully illustrated book that recalled Beatrix Potter and a bit of Milne , with a sweet, but somewhat wandering, storyline.

    11. These Brambly Hedge books are SO GOOD I had all of them when I was younger, and I loved them So sweet These would probably make really good baby shower gifts.

    12. Brambly Hedge not the greatest written books, but the illustrations are exquisite and my daughter LOVED them.
