Extraordinary depictions of middle class, middle aged life in middle America in the middle of the last century The priestly protagonists could be the grandsons and nephews of George F Babbitt of Zenith, Ohio, grown a bit self aware than the old man but still vitally interested in fitting in and competing with their peers, ingratiating themselves to their superiors and keeping the pews filled on Sundays.

    3. I love JF Powers short stories incisive, sometimes mysterious but always to the point Interestingly enough, I learned about conducting business from them than from any business book I ever purchased.
