    2. Anyone who is interested in the experience of an Ethiopian Eritrean through the difficult period of the end of Haile Selassie s reign and the subsequent rule of Mengistu and the communist Dergue will find this book fascinating The author grew up under these regimes and describes his and his family s personal struggles through both periods so difficult it is hard to believe it could just go on and on and on but it does He finally manages to leave Ethiopia and move on to Egypt, then Japan, where h [...]

    3. This was a compelling, heart wrenching book It is hard to imagine living the kind of life he has and still be able to be positive and forgiving and hopeful. In a nutshell Tewodros grew up in Ethiopia surrounded by war, most of his life His mother was raped and became pregnant with him at the age of 13 The two of them were outcasts and the father always denied that he was the father and never helped in any way It just gets worse from then on But, there is a sense of hope and I will not be done in [...]

    5. I was really looking forward to reading this but found it needed a good editor Could have been half the length No pace, too much irrelevant detail and rather self obsessed It just couldn t capture my interest no matter how many times I tried to re read.

    6. An amazing story of one man s story of trying to belong a family and later to a country The trials that this person has endured and survived are astounding I had the pleasure of meeting him in person and he s story is a wonderful example of defiance and survival A truly amazing story
