    1. Murder in Hum Harbor by Jayne E Self is an intriguing mystery Jewelry crafter, Gailynn MacDonald is a fun character and I enjoyed reading about her life in Hum Harbor. When not so loved resident Doc Campbell is found on his boat, dead, it sets off an investigation that opens a Pandora s box full of lies, deceit and hatred.Gai can t help but believe Doc was murdered and she sets off to discover the truth. Not everyone in the charming town of Hum Harbor appreciates Gai sticking her nose in their bus [...]

    2. I was given this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review This was an interesting book in that it is set in Canada the first cozy I ve read set in Canada , it involves jewelry making but that wasn t discussed much at all , and the murderer was not someone you would expect in a cozy mystery I had my suspicions about who did it, but really didn t believe it could be that person because it just isn t done this way in cozies The story went well, but I did fine Gailynn a l [...]

    3. 4. I really enjoyed this book and have to say that I was captured by it from the beginning to the end I loved the writing style of Jayne Self and how her characters were very well developed but had humor as well The story flowed well and didn t have any lulls for me Gailynn is a part time receptionist at a medical office in town and a part time jeweler where she makes her own glass pieces When Doc decides to retire and sell his business, Geoff is the one that is buying it Gailynn ends up finding Do [...]

    5. What an incredibly audacious book it is a mystery of mysteries You have irritating what people think Gai is with all her asking of questions and research she is doing to find the murderer , linear the way the towns people think except for Gai , memorable Doc was very memorable to everyone in town mostly bad memories with many people left behind as suspects because of it including Gai s own family , outgoing Gai has an outgoing personality with her own business of making jewelry, working as a med [...]

    6. Engaging and entertaining cozy mystery Small town to the extreme, so some of what occurs can be explained due to that issue Sweet romance, marital problems, alcohol excesses, and add to the plot The publisher provided a copy via NetGalley for my voluntary review I look forward to reading the next one in this series.

    7. I enjoy cozy mysteries, and have a few authors who write them who are on my buy immediately list Unfortunately, this author will not be one of them for several reasons The first thing which I did not see mentioned anywhere is that this book is all written in first person point of view Although I have read others written like that, and liked them, it is not my favorite form for any book Although the setting is well done, and characters are rather well developed with both the good and bad points y [...]

Originally posted at lasrmystery 2012 Doc always did like to drink but no one expected to find him dead on his boat the day after he had retired and taken off for the Caribbean. This author chose a fictitious harbor in Nova Scotia for her setting in this story She does an excellent job of painting you a picture with her words so you feel just like you re there on the waterfront I enjoyed her term of versatile weather You can get five kinds in one day in the Northwest and I doubt the east coast is [...]

    9. Gailynn MacDonald is not your typical amateur sleuth But if you ever found yourself in trouble, and maybe even accused of murder, she is exactly the kind of person you would want to have on your side From the very beginning, this young woman seemed like someone I knew from somewhere rather than simply a character in a book And it is through her eyes along with her engaging personality that the little coastal town of Hum Harbor comes to life She casts her net over a veritable potpourri of suspec [...]

    11. Wanting a Cozy I ve decided to adopt the American spelling as to me our way with an s just doesn t look right Mystery to read One that will have you guessing the murdered right up to the last page as it seems in the small community of Hum Harbour everybody is a murder suspect and they all seem to have very good reasons for wanting the deceased to be well Dead The story starts with main character Gailynn aka Gai finding the former Doc s boat stuck in the reef, this strikes her as odd since he s s [...]

    12. This is a short romantic suspense, perhaps a little longer than a Love Inspired book As such, there s not a lot of room for multiple plot lines Both the mystery and the romance work well, and I like the author s touches of humour Cousin Mimi names her Daschunds Oscar, Meyer and Frank.Canadian author Jayne E Self does a fine job of bringing the characters of the small, coastal town of Hum Harbour to life, and she absolutely nails the feel of the setting. The novel is told first person from Gailynn [...]

    13. A certified medical receptionist by day, and a sea glass jewelry designer by evenings and weekends, Gailynn MacDonald, is trolling the Nova Scotia shores of little Hum Harbour, when she comes upon the beached cabin cruiser of her former boss, Doc Campbell Gailynn also finds her boss, dead.Being a large town of 363 persons, Gailynn rushes to the police department to find her brother, Andrew At the scene of death is it a murder or accident a silver earring with violet sea glass is found Gailynn kn [...]

    14. Murder in Hum Harbour is a murder mystery set in a small town in Nova Scotia The main character, Gailynn MacDonald is a medical receptionist and part time jewelry crafter who in spite of her frustration with the new doctor, begins to fall for him Jayne Self crafts many quirky characters in this Christian mystery romance but not frustrating that Gailynn who comes across as a loveable but very nosey young woman who repeatedly makes the wrong accusations Writing in which the heroine is a rather un [...]

    15. Love this maritime murder mystery Delightful, colorful characters, an engaging setting the quaint fishing village of Hum Harbour with its four streets where everyone seems to have a secret, and a plot that parallels the outrageous whims of main character and Hum Harbour resident, Gailynn MacDonald Besides the fact that I know author Jayne Self and have read her witty fiction before, the first line grabbed my attention I learned something new about myself the day I found Doc Campbell Dead bodies [...]

    16. 4 1 2 stars Murder in Hum Harbor is a sweet little mystery with a wonderful quirky leading lady, Gailyn MacDonald With a whole host of potential suspects, she convincingly jumps from one assumption to another leading her down a very rocky path, ruffling a lot of feathers Even with her brother Andrew, a local police officer, telling her to let them figure things out, she still manages to do her own investigation in her meandering abstract way She certainly keeps me confused right till the end, no [...]

    17. Jayne E Self, a Canadian with a definite gift, spins a yarn set in Nova Scotia, Canada with all the nuances of that region Sea Glass jewelry, fishing boats, small town life, and lengthy relationships makes her characters believable The story begins with a discovered death which has suspicious overtones and a main character with a history for jumping to conclusions What does her faith have to do with anything You ll find out when you download this must read for yourself.

    18. I liked the writing style and voice and for the most part enjoyed this book However I disliked the main character, Gaelynn She seemed incredibly stupid at times and never seemed able to keep her mouth shut Absolutely not the kind of person you d want working in a doctor s surgery.I d read this author again if the main character was someone different.

    19. I figured out the whodunit way early on in the book, but kept reading anyway My grandmother was born in Nova Scotia and the setting felt real to me, even though I m not sure Hum Harbour itself really exists The characters were interesting and complex.

    20. I thoroughly enjoyed Jayne Self s debut whodoneit She is a talented writer and one to keep watching She won an award for this book well deserved.
