    1. Maggie decided to have an affair No one needed to know, not even her lover I was intrigued by the description of this book A lonely woman decides to carry on an affair in her mind just for fun, only to realize that there may be something to it than just her imagination I decided to give it a try even though I was afraid it might turn out to be something I wouldn t like I soon discovered that I could not put Night Machines down I was so intrigued by the plot I stayed up reading into the wee hour [...]

    2. Since I wrote Night Machines, I know what s good about this book Quality of writing, decency of the characters, thoughtfulness of the storyline, and overall creepiness Also, no gratuitous sex, violence or obscenity There is some, but just enough to make the story work I just re read it and realized I had never added my own comments to oops Hope you enjoy the tale and please feel free to write to me with your comments and questions

    3. Dreamy, scary, hard hitting Kia Heavey s first novel is enthralling, psychologically astute and charged with creepy crawly suspense Maggie is a devoted wife and mother with a degree in English that seems to be going to waste She feels estranged from her busy husband whose police work occupies his time and energy, and worn out from being home all day with two toddlers Maggie finds escape from her mundane life and a new outlet for her neglected writing talent by going to work for a company that ha [...]

    4. The whole idea of exploring what happens in a person s dreams made this a must read for me.Maggie is a good wife and mother, which is what makes this story all the poignant Even the best can be tempted and when the right sequence of circumstances aligns, they can fall.I found Night Machines an interesting foray into psychology and Maggie s emotions as they led her to flirt brazenly with disaster Her husband Rowan, a detective, grows emotionally distant after the horrifying murder of a young gir [...]

    5. Kia Heavey Night Machines blew me away A wonderfully plotted book, I had no idea the turns the book would take I like originality and this novel had it in spades.I m a practical man and a devoted skeptic My world is built on reason and concrete facts I look on the supernatural with the same jaundiced eye I give car salesmen and easy weight loss pills But Heavey s story and her writing pulled me into a world where I could believe dreams could be made manifest Or vice verse, I m still not sure. One [...]

    6. Maggie is in a difficult arc of her life journey and is antsy for a change She is the mother of a toddler son and a pre k daughter, both of whom she loves dearly, but she longs for the grown up working world where she came from She finds a job opportunity in the paper that seems right up her alley She lands an interview but feels out of place in the business setting of a pharmaceutical lab which manufactures the sleeping pill Anadreme That all changes, however, when she meets the company owner.H [...]

    7. Kia Heavey s Night Machines is a difficult to classify novel or less paranormal suspense with strong romantic elements that asks the reader to really think about what marital fidelity is Among the many surprising things in this novel is, despite its very Christian theme, it is not a Christian book at all It is, instead, a very female book, one that takes the darkest and most private thoughts of a woman and lays them bare.In Night Machines, Maggie Moore and her husband, police officer Rowan, are [...]

    8. Warning DO NOT read this book right before bed Night Machines is one very freaky ride We all do it you know we do Those sweet dreams where we are involved with someone other than our partner No harm Just a little nocturnal fooling around that hurts no one Right Well what happens if that little nocturnal nothing is than you thought it to be What if the dream is a shared experience And you don t find out it is a shared experience until you are so far in, that getting out becomes the stuff of nigh [...]

    9. There is a lot going on in this book Murder and demons and a woman defining herself it is almost too much going on Almost The characters are rich and well defined you find yourself wanting to crawl into the pages to clue them in as to what s really going on The story of Maggie is one many women will be able to relate to minus the supernatural bits but about carving out her own identity as a wife and a mother as well as a professional and a sexual being That makes Maggie sympathetic and one of us [...]

    10. I loved this book It was just what I was looking for Yes it is a romance novel but it is that and so much As other reviewers said you cannot really classify this book The characters were likable and hateable for all the right reasons It is deffinately like nothing I have ever read and that is a very good thing I read almost daily As a person who hardly watches television and reads for entertainment, Night Machines was a nice break away from the typical cookie cutter books that prevail the marke [...]

    11. This is a chick book, but I enjoyed it very much The writing was wonderful, the Characters full and believable and even a little trip into the supernatural almost seemed plausible My favorite part of the book was that it was sexy without vulgarity and the conflicts between the characters are very real and plausible You may see yourself in one of these characters If I had any problems with this book is there is something left unsolved but not necessarily unpunished Maybe I can talk to the author [...]

    12. For a free download, this was a pretty decent book The paranormal aspects of the storyline were a bit strange night demons not being my thing, and all What I found interesting in this book was that Maggie, a relatively happy wife and mother who would never actually have an affair, allows herself to fantasize about her boss, then finds herself in over her head Heavey explores the idea of what actually constitutes infidelity, and I liked her conservative conclusions.

    13. Wow I got this book as a free offering and was seriously not disappointed The book had me from the very beginning and I couldn t put it down.Afterall everyone fantasizes, but I will be rethinking that now lol Great read that had me scared at the end Will recommend over and over again

    14. Frankly, I thought it was an interesting concept but it didn t really move fast enough for me All the time spent inside the main characters head was boring.

    15. UnputdownableI just could not put this book down The story was awesome and it was a different type of horror and the characters were likeable Just very interesting.

    16. In this novel of suspense, romance gone awry, and the paranormal, the main character, Maggie Moore, is married to Rowan, a detective in the small town where they live, and is the mother of two Now that her children are a bit older, she s ready to return to the working world but is anxious about her interview for a part time job as a corporate communications writer and editor at NarcoDynamics Dr Cambien Cuthbert, founder of the company and creator of the clinical sleep aid Anadreme, which elimina [...]

    17. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Kia Heavey s YA novel, Underlake, for which I wrote a 5 star review Afterward, the author generously gifted me a copy of her adult novel, Night Machines, warning me that it might be a tad creepier and racier than what I normally read And it was. That being said, shortly after it arrived in the mail, I picked it up and read a few pagesd I was quickly hooked.Heavey is such a talented writer, and her stories are such page turners As I devoured Night Machines, I kept sayi [...]

    18. Oh, this was a fun little ride of weird.Kia Heavey, the authorKia Heavey, the authorThis has three interesting character studies Maggie is the bored housewife married to the boring cop, and her brand new boss is the nerdy kid from high school who grew up to be a billionaire with the looks of a guy on the cover of a romance novel The new boss, Cambien, is a specialist in medication of dreams which makes me wonder if his name is supposed to rhyme with Ambien. It s also three stories of obsession Ma [...]

    19. The book tells the story of an ordinary housewife Maggie, after staying as a full time mother for years to her kids, decided she wanted to go back working Her new employer, Cambien turns out to be a classmate in high school While having problems with her husband, Rowan, a police detective working 24 7 on a case of a murdered young girl, she finds herself liking Cambien She develops a harmless crush on her boss and sometimes dreams mostly lust dreams about him She feels this imaginary affair with [...]

    20. I wasn t sure what to expect when I picked up this book It seemed like it could just be a romance novel, which doesn t really appeal to me, but there was something in the description that caught my eye and made me wonder if there was something interesting going on with the story I m happy to say that there was a lot to this novel than your run of the mill Fifty Shades type story There are layers to the characters, and action have consequences I don t want to reveal too much about the story, bu [...]

    21. This book is certainly than it first appears Unfortunately, it didn t really come together for me I just couldn t ignore that none of the characters felt particularly relatable Maggie is far too passive And though the author takes care to present these characters as intellectuals, they spend the first half of the book acting like children I guess the reader is supposed to be caught up in Maggie s false love affair from the start but, for me, it just seemed creepy In the end, there were too many [...]

    22. Finishing Night Machines left me questioning exactly what kind of book it was that I read Romance Thriller Mystery Well, it s got all of these elements, plus well developed and realistic characters, and a thought provoking, chilling story, all of which is beautifully written making Night Machines a novel that should be read by all I didn t know what to expect when I started it, but Wow For a debut novel, Kia Heavey knocked it out of the park I could provide insight into the novel, but I think i [...]

    23. When I first started reading Night Machines I thought it was a romantic book with an innocent undertone Maggie was technically not cheating on her husband and given her current situation at home, you couldn t really blame her for her lustrous dreams Little did I know the story s twisted nature until Maggie s boss Cambian exhibits some very unusual behavior I became hooked the unsettled I felt It was creepily descriptive and left me full of anticipation Heavey takes us on a journey about family, [...]

    24. Read the review, in full, at theultimatebooknookHeavey s writing is wonderful She can bring you into this world seamlessly and it makes it hard to come out of it Her imagery and prose are beautiful I will admit, too, that it seeped into my dreams on a few occasion causing some fitful nights of sleep All the characters are real and like able, at least in the beginning There were times in the story that I thought this certain section could have been left out but I later find out that all things ar [...]

    25. I rarely read a book I find both literary and hard to put down Kia Heavey s Night Machines is definitely both With beautiful language and subtle metaphors, the author paints a world where one woman s sensual daydreams turn into nightmares Engaging characters and clever twists make for an entertaining read The author s devotion to family, combined with her values and passions, bring to light a unique and inspiring story.

    26. Somebody brought it to my attention on that I d restated the plot there Since I don t have the blog where I left a review and I can t remember anything about this book now I ve revamped my review and rating I can t remember so it must not have made an impression so it must not have been that good.

    27. Great book Main character goes back to work after having kids and ends up working for someone she knew in high school He owns a big pharmaceutical company sleep meds and has always loved her Husband is a cop and busy with a case Maggie is unable to sleep so starts taking the meds Strange things start happening after that.

    28. Okay so I even felt guilty reading this book It literally scared me to death But all in all it was a really good book Main characters were really good, easy to read, but the only thing that I didnt like was how easily she pretended that she didnt have childrenrry a tiny spoiler Anyway, great descriptions, great story line, thought it was a great book.
